1. “Abstracting Nature” Exhibit at Hob’Art Gallery – Friday, August 8-Sunday, September 7

Abstracting Nature”, an exhibition by Alberte Bernier and Olga Guerra will open to the public from August 8, 2014 – September 7, 2014 at hob’art co-operative gallery, 720 Monroe Street, E208, Hoboken, NJ. “Abstracting Nature” puts in perspective a selection of artwork in which each artist illustrates her expressionist interpretation of nature. On Sunday August 17 at 3:30pm, the artists will talk about their artwork and welcome questions from visitors. Gallery hours are Thursday through Sunday, 1:00-5:00pm, and by appointment. Free parking is available at the rear of the building on Jackson Street and is wheelchair accessible.  Gallery information may be obtained on the website www.hob-art.org and from the director, France Garrido, (201) 319-1504 or director@hob-art.org.

3. Park Bench Open Mic Featuring Big Fun(k) by Hoboken Public Library — Saturday, August 16 at 2:00PM-4:30PM

Local poets, comedians, and musicians can perform outdoors under the Gazebo of Church Square Park. Perform your poems, jokes, music or dance. Park Bench Poetry Open-Mic features unique and talented acts attracting curious locals who are introduced to the buzz of the Hoboken arts scene. It is a great event to not only experience the arts, but also to learn of about the free programs the Hoboken Public Library has to offer.

5. Hoboken Historical Museum: Film Screening–  Sunday, 4pm

Chinese-American filmmaker Theresa Loong will be present to discuss her film,  Every Day is a Holiday, which will be shown at the Museum at 4pm. The movie focuses on her father’s secret diary that recounts his time as a prisoner in a Japanese camp during WWII. A must see!

 

6. Gallery Walk in Hoboken — Sunday, 2pm-5pm

Every 3rd Sunday there is a gallery walk around town — a few participating galleries and boutiques include Mackey Blue, Proto Gallery, Barsky Gallery, and more! This is your lucky Sunday — enjoy a stroll around town while perusing the beautiful galleries around town. Details of participating locations here.
