News of the Closing

Hooked JC is located at 467 Communipaw Avenue in Bergen-Lafayette, an off-the-beaten-path neighborhood in Jersey City that’s an easy Uber ride from the Mile Square or Downtown Jersey City. The outside of the building is pretty nondescript, featuring a sign that says, “You should eat here” (and honestly, we agree — we makes this closing news even sadder).

On July 13th, Hooked JC announced on its Instagram that it would be closing up shop in order to put its full effort into Cafe Alyce, which the owners opened in 2021.

“When one door closes another opens! We’ve decided to consolidate our resources and move our full attention to Cafe Alyce. Hooked JC will forever have a special place in our hearts and we are excited about what’s ahead for our new venture,” the posts reads.

Hooked JC will be having its final day this Sunday, July 17th, closing officially at 9:30PM.

There are so many wonderful eats we’ll miss at Hooked JC. Everything from the scallops, crab cakes, and shrimp to fish tacos, a lobster roll, fried oysters, and seafood gumbo were all delicious.

We’re especially going to miss the crab mac and cheese. The crab mac and cheese has a blackened crab cake mixed into their perfectly creamy, house-made mac (read: HEAVEN). We recommend  stopping in before this Sunday to try it out.

Luckily, there’s still Cafe Alyce to try out. Located at 641 Montgomery Street, this spot serves up some yummy breakfast, brunch, and lunch options. We covered everything you need to know about Cafe Alyce here.

The History

Hooked JC’s building was constructed in 1848, having been home to a few restaurants throughout the years. Today, it’s home to Hooked JC — and TBD who is gonna be taking it over next. Founded by partners and first-time restaurant owners Natalie Miniard and Tory Aunspach, it was a labor of love combined with an intense culinary passion and desire to strengthen community ties — which they will be moving over to Cafe Alyce. For some background: Natalie is a Jersey City real estate broker and Tory has worked as a chef on private luxury yachts in the Bahamas and Baja. The two reconnected via Facebook and decided to collaborate on this joint venture.
