As a Hoboken bride, it’s a given that you’ll be incorporating a piece of our little mile square into your big day. More and more couples are choosing to incorporate bits of their personalities and interests into their wedding festivities, and being that Hoboken is pretty much the best city EVER, it’s pretty natural to want to capture some of it on the most important day of your life. Through décor, food, favors, or vendors – there are tons of unique and special ways to pay homage to Hoboken and share your love with your guests. Check out our suggestions on how to bring a little bit of Hoboken to your wedding day in the latest edition of The Hoboken Bride.

Hoboken Wedding Décor:

Planning your reception décor is one of the most exciting aspects of wedding planning. Why not get a little creative and add some Hoboken touches into your visions? Instead of numbering your tables, name each table after your favorite city street with significance to you. Got a good eye? Take some skyline shots and photos around Hoboken to add to your tablescapes. For the couples who have tons of special memories in Hoboken, check out Love Travels.

Hudson Cakery, Carlo’s, Giorgios Bakery, Schnackenbergs, OM Sweet Home, and Sweet are just some of the {incredibly} delicious bakeries that call Hoboken home. Whether it’s the wedding cake itself, cakepops, cupcakes, or cookies – you’re sure to satisfy your guests’ sweet tooth while adding a piece of Hoboken to your big day desserts. Lepore’s is another Hoboken-based chocolate shop that offers an array of chocolates and candies for a DIY candy bar or for favors, too. {Seriously, Lepore’s truffles = OMG}

Local Hoboken Favors:

More and more, couples are ditching traditional favors and are becoming more philanthropic by making donations to causes close to their hearts in honor of wedding guests. Local Hoboken charities including the Hoboken Family Alliance Inc., the Rebuild Hoboken Relief Fund, the Hoboken-North Hudson YMCA, TRUE Mentors. or Party with Purpose are local charities with very worthwhile causes.

Self proclaimed “paper aficionados,” Hudson Paperie {formerly Yes I Do} can create the perfect custom gift tags, and menus and programs {and of course invites and save the dates, too!}. They also sell tons of adorable wedding themed decor, and unique Hoboken items.

Want to give a piece of Hoboken for your guests to take with them? There are tons of awesome vendors at both the fall and spring Hoboken Arts & Music Festival {find out when that’s happening here}. Speak to individual vendors who sell candles, coasters, postcards, and other local souvenirs for a quote on how they can be a part of your wedding!

Hoboken Music:

Ole’ Blue Eyes is a staple in our city. For a true Hobokenite wedding, he should be on your “must play” list AT LEAST once twice. Other bands from Hoboken include Yo La Tengo, and The Bongos so you can bring some Hoboken music vibes to your dance floor {or instrumental versions during cocktail hour}. There are also tons of local musicians that play at bars throughout the city. Check out the local music scene and you just may find a performer perfect for your party!

Local Hoboken Grub:

The beautiful Maxwell Place currently stands where the original Maxwell House Coffee factory once stood. Serve their trademark coffee after dinner as you pay homage to what was once a Hoboken staple. Tacos more your thing? Hire the Hoboken-based Taco Truck {food truck} to feed your guest some bites at your after party.

Speaking of after-parties… pizza, pizza, and more pizza, please and thank you. A go-to standard for late night eats, it will be appreciated by all, ESPECIALLY the probably-carb-deprived bride. For this, look no further than Hoboken Original  Benny Tudinos for delicious Hoboken pizza {that’s also bigger than your face}.

Most weddings serve bread with salads during dinner so why not bring in some coal-fired brick oven bread from Antique Bakery, a Hoboken original since 1938. Right now it’s closed for renovations, but it’s relocated to 279 Newark Avenue in Jersey City and is coming back in the fall {phew!}. And with tons of delicious restaurants within city limits, for smaller weddings and/or if your venue permits outside catering – consider commissioning a Hoboken restaurant for your culinary needs.
