A new gastropub with a view of the Manhattan skyline has opened along Jersey City’s waterfront and NOT mad about it. Located in the Harborside District of Jersey City’s, Hudson & Co describes itself as a nautically-themed gastropub and officially opened its waterfront doors to patrons on Thursday, October 25.

The 12,000-square foot space sits close to 300 people and features industrial-style design elements. Wrought-iron chandeliers, accents of copper, and lots of piping and bars give the place a bit of an upscale warehouse vibe. The floor-to-ceiling windows offer an across-the-Hudson viewing of the Manhattan skyline, and patrons lucky enough to snag a leather-seated booth by the main window will have a clear view of the Freedom Tower downtown.

Another Hudson & Co feature people are getting excited about is its 4,000 square foot terrace. The terrace features outdoor seating, with an even more pronounced view across the Hudson River. With rooftop opportunities in Hudson County relatively limited, Hudson & Co’s big open terrace is likely to pull in a lot of interest from customers, especially on warm days.

Wondering what the menu is like? A gray, pebble-stone bar offers 120 different beers — all on tap. The Hudson & Co bar also offers a vast selection of cocktails and wines. Liquor notwithstanding, the menu has a vast array of dishes — everything from tuna tartare to artisan wood-fired pizzas made on site. Those looking for a classic meat dish will likely not be disappointed: with prime beef burgers and a dry aged New York strip both listed as menu staples.

The new downtown hot-spot at 3 Second Street is owned by Jeremy Castilli, the restauranteur known for launching other successful local spots like Pier 115 of Edgewater and AOA Bar & Grill in Tribeca.

Jersey City’s Harborside has been seeing a great amount of renovation in recent months. In fact, positioning Harborside as a hub for delicious and eclectic food and lots to do has been a goal of Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop for some time now. With more food options than ever in downtown Harborside {think Tidal Poke, the pop-up food court, Ruth’s Chris and classics like Exchange Market Place}, Hudson & Co seems to be joining the movement at a flourishing time for local businesses.

Food isn’t all that Harborside has to offer. With over 100 years of history and culture adding to its richness, Harborside is bountiful in New York City views, markets, scenic walkways, art installations, live performances, and community events.

Hudson & Co is just another exciting addition to an already lively and exciting area in downtown Jersey City.
