There’s just something about dining on the water, and as Hudson County residents, we have plenty of different options to do just that. Weehawken is one of those memorable towns on the water — also home to Hudson Blue Bar and View, located at 4800 Port Imperial Boulevard. We recently stopped by for a weeknight dinner at this Weehawken restaurant and are sharing all about the experience. Read on to learn about Hudson Blue Bar + View’s location, ambiance, and of course, the food:

The Location

You may have already guessed that Hudson Blue Bar lies on the Hudson River — located right in the NY Waterway Weehawken Terminal. The views are amazing at this delicious seafood spot, where glass aligns the walls while you dine. There is also a spacious, private outdoor patio for your crew to relax as you overlook the New York City Skyline. This is an ideal spot for sunny afternoons or a date night out.

Hobbs Inc

This Zagat-rated restaurant has a large selection of seafood salads, such as spicy quid and spicy tuna, as well as a mix of Asian Fusion dishes and a very impressive list of sushi special rolls. We recommend trying one {or two or three} of the Chef’s Special Creations rolls, such as the Rock and Roll, which is a deep-fried tuna, salmon, kani, and scallions.

The appetizers didn’t disappoint, either — choosing the Beef Negamaki {sliced beef roll with scallion in a yummy teriyaki sauce}, the Shumai {steamed shrimp dumplings}, and the Tuna Tataki {Seared Tina with Ponzu Sauce} were pretty solid choices. As far as drinks go, drafts of beer and wine are available as well as specialty cocktails. Their signature cocktail, the Hudson Blue, is calling the name of every sugar fiend out there, while their Tito’s Fresh Mule is a nice + refreshing way to start the night.

Ambiance

The clear, glass walls that surround the restaurant showcase killer views of the city skyline { only a 10 minutes away from Hoboken and 15 from JC} + Hudson River; making it a very relaxing atmosphere. The dining area indoors is full of cozy booths + the bar definitely plays up the restaurant’s name, as it is covered in various shades of blue tile accompanied by bar shelves illuminated in blue hues.

The Service

Being that our attendance wasn’t during the best of days {weather was on + off sunny with rainstorms}, the service wasn’t as up to par as it normally would be during a weeknight with live music or a happy hour crowd. Less people in the area led for a very quiet + {at times} slower-paced environment. The staff was happy to accommodate any request or question regarding the menu and cocktails, but the energy was a bit lacking due to foot traffic and service was a bit slow in general.

The Fun Stuff

For sports fans, Hudson Blue Bar has eight large screen TVs to choose from along with trivia on Tuesday nights. There is live jazz every Wednesday night from 6:30PM – 9:30 PM and live music every Friday night from 7:00PM to 10:00PM.

Something for Everyone

Seafood lovers will appreciate the choice of appetizers — and a hot tip: order the Love Boat. It’s meant for two and includes 18 pieces of sashimi, 10 pieces of sushi, one dragon roll, and one California roll. There are 14 Chef’s Special Rolls and 8 Chef’s Special Creation rolls to choose from for large groups who want to try a little of everything. Hudson Blue Bar has a little something for the non-sushi lover. Pad Thai, Teriyaki, and Classic Wok dishes are available, with an HG fave being the Thai Basil {which comes in various varieties such as vegetable, chicken, beef, or shrimp}.

The Bonus

Hudson Blue Bar takes reservations + orders for takeout, but welcome walk-ins are welcome. While some dining spots by the water can be tough for parking, Hudson Blue Bar will validate parking for up to 3 hours with a minimum purchase of $25. Present your ticket to the restaurant manager within the first half hour of you entering the parking lot to cash in on this.

The Takeaway

Views, drink specials, parking deals, live music, sushi, + fully stocked bar = can’t go wrong. This spot has everything in one plus a decent amount to do during the weekdays and weekends — and nice change from the Hoboken / Jersey City restaurant and bar scene. While the service was slow, Word of advice: definitely hit this place up on a sunny day or weeknight.
