Here’s a bit more about Learn Language and why we love it:
1. There’s a class that works for everyone.
Want to brush up on your high school Spanish? Or revisit Italian from your time studying abroad in Rome? Or try something brand new and study Mandarin? All are possibilities at Learn Language. They offer classes in Spanish, Italian, French, Arabic, Mandarin, German and ESL. In each language, there are 13 different classes available including Beginner {levels 1-4}, Intermediate {levels 1-4}, Advanced {levels 1-4}, and Advanced Conversation. If you’re not sure what level is best for you, you can reach out and a teacher will call you and assess your skills over the phone to help you choose the right class. Click here to view the calendar.
2. You’ll Meet New People
One of the most fun things about taking a class is getting to meet new people doing the same thing. During each 10-week course, you’ll get to connect with your classmates and practice your speaking skills with them. This helps make it a fun learning experience and also a social experience as well. Plus, if you keep moving through the curriculum and start the next level, you’ll likely get to be in class with some friendly faces from the class before. The community offers a whole new way to get social in Hoboken.
3. The teachers are strict {in a good way}, but also friendly.
If you’re having flashbacks to your junior year Spanish class where you spent most of the time saying “yo no comprende” while begging to raise a failing grade, not to worry — Learn Language isn’t like that. The teachers definitely hold students to high standards by encouraging them to speak in the language as often as possible. But, they’re also super willing to help you along the way and really make you feel comfortable trying even if it’s not perfect. Plus, there’s no grades, so you don’t need to worry about getting a bad report card.
4. You’ll also learn about a new culture.
Taking a class at Learn Language doesn’t just give you conversational skills, it also gives you some insight into the culture that natively speaks your selected language. Many of the teachers have lived in the country’s language they’re teaching, so they offer a great perspective of what life is like there. During a recent Italian class, students got to learn about different foods and recipes offered in different regions of Italy from a teacher who was born and raised in the country. Hearing all about the food, holidays, clothing, and social norms of another culture makes the whole experience more enriching. Just be aware that it can also make you catch the travel bug and have you looking up flights on the daily.
5. You really will learn a language.
The best part about taking a class at Learn Language is that it really works. Over 10 weeks you’ll be able to walk away speaking way more than you did when you started. Of course, the more you put into it the more you get out of it. But, the classes offer suggested homework assignments that are pretty fun, and are a great way to keep your skills growing in between class meetings. As an adult, it’s not often that you get the chance to feel a big personal accomplishment in just 10 weeks, but taking a class at Learn Language really gives you that feeling.
