From the owners of downtown Hoboken eatery Pici and café Short Grain, comes a newly opened fast-casual concept: Little Grain. Set up inside the Harborside terminal {200 Hudson Street} alongside other shops and restaurants, Little Grain serves the hundreds of people that walk through the building each day. The grab + go options — from coffee to breakfast, sandwiches and even an in-store grocery — make it an easy pit stop on the way to the Exchange Place Path, Harborside Ferry or if you work in the area.

Atmosphere

Little Grain is aesthetically no frills, resembling a cafeteria counter or your local deli {read: no seating}, making it an ideal space to serve the morning rush of travelers heading into Manhattan or people picking up a quick lunch. It also is directly connected to the neighboring restaurant Tidal Poke Co. {which is under the same ownership}.

Short Grain’s menu was inspired by the owner’s childhood and travel memories, and Little Grain reflects the same vibe — traditional café brunch items punctuated with Asian-influenced dishes. They currently are offering a soft lunch menu of just eight items, but each of them pack a punch and will satisfy your cravings no matter what mood you are in {and not to mention — all items on the menu are under $12, which is music to all working New York City ears everywhere}.

While the menu still features Short Grain favorites like the popular avocado toast, roasted cauliflower, coconut curry chicken, and pork belly, Little Grain offers some new items like the breakfast sandwich {with turkey sausage, cheddar and soft scrambled eggs}. Also new is the Vermicelli, a popular Asian noodle that you can add to any sandwich or bowl {which we highly recommend trying}.

Grocery Items

Little Grain also sells specialty grocery items such as aloe yogurt, Baonanas banana pudding, Japanese specialty drinks, fish sauce, and ramen. Asian treats like Pocky Matcha Sticks and Hello Panda Cookies are also available. The grocery section is definitely a must-stop if you want to spice up your pantry.

If you’re looking for some coffee to-go, there’s the ever-delicious Counter Culture coffee {which you can also buy bags of onsite} including the crowd-pleasing Vietnamese style cold brew, a to-die-for treat to pick up any afternoon slump.

Final Verdict

Overall, Little Grain definitely fills a gap in the current Harborside food offerings. And between the extremely friendly staff (they will eagerly and happily explain any of the menu or grocery items} and the convenience factor and the great food, this is great spot to put on your list if you are in the waterfront area of Jersey City.

FYI: Little Grain is only open 7:00AM-3:00PM on weekdays.
