Lutze Biergarten opened with a bang, celebrating their grand opening in May with a Cinco De Mayo themed party. Since then, this outdoor, waterfront biergarten has already hosted many other awesome events like the Craft Brew Fest, a luau, and movie nights. We stopped by recently for the launch of their newest weekly event, Lutze Eats, and we’re excited to give you the deets about this booming Jersey City hangout.

One of the best things about this biergarten is the atmosphere. First of all, it’s spacious and outdoors — a combo we don’t find often around these parts. Sure, there are a lot of great places to eat outdoors in Hoboken and Jersey City, but they can’t necessarily accommodate a large party the way Lutze can. There are plenty of seating options, including picnic tables and adirondack chairs, plus a nice, shady area for table service. If you prefer a little more action, you can pop around and play the games they’ve set up like cornhole, foosball, jenga, and shuffleboard. Located across from downtown Manhattan, you’ll also get a pretty spectacular view of the Freedom Tower {you’ve got to check out this view at night}.

Lutze also scores big points with us for their full bars {yes, multiple bars. Read: no long lines}. With a good variety of craft beer, German brews, a full cocktail bar, sangria, and cider, there’s something for everybody. It was pretty hot when we were there, and the frosé really hit the spot. Beer lovers, check out their site to see the full selection.

Hungry? Let’s talk food. Lutze regularly offers a variety of great food, including crab cakes, a raw bar {oysters and peel + eat shrimp}, pulled pork, sliders, bratwurst, bacon mac n’ cheese, sausage, and pretzels, but for dessert, stop at the Waffle It + Co stand {we tried their French Kiss waffle, and OMGeeee!}.

In addition to their daily selection, they’re now also hosting Lutze Eats {Saturdays and Sundays until October 29}, where food vendors pop up for the day and offer even more yummy options. These include MozzArepas, Sisig City, Glazed and Confused, Maroon Sausage, Ben and Jerry’s, Kimchi Grill, Enfes Mediterranean Grill, and Raw Mkt. There’s a nice fusion of food to interest tastebuds of all kind. Aside from the food pop-ups, Lutze features some other vendors such as Moon Child jewelry, a henna artist, and a braid bar.

We covered the basics, but there are some other little perks to this place that you need to know about. For one, they have a stage for live music and a DJ booth. When we were there for Lutze Eats, they had both live musicians and a DJ taking turns. Also, Lutze is pet friendly and family friendly, as long as minors are accompanied by an adult. And remember how we said that they can accommodate larger parties? If you contact them in advance, you can make arrangements for an event and/or reservations. In fact, the Hoboken Girl team had our own party at Lutze a few weeks ago — the food and drinks were great, the view was stunning, and the staff was very accommodating and friendly. We highly recommend hosting your gathering at Lutze.

So, there you have it. Be sure to visit this outdoor open air biergarten for Lutze Eats and don’t miss out on some summer fun. True story, we’ve been back twice, and Lutze just say we left with plans to return again… ASAP.
