Now that the weather is getting colder, I’m craving soups and comfort foods. It’s a bit harder to find gluten-free comfort foods since the carb factor is a major white-bread one most of the time, but recently I managed to do so. Here are some of my new favorite “cold weather” gluten free products {that can be found in and around Hoboken or online}:

Streit’s Gluten Free Matzo Ball Mix & Soup.

Streit's Matzo Ball Soup

I love matzo ball soup and trying to find a gluten free version has been challenging. Now I can make this at home. Streit’s makes this easy – just add eggs and oil to the mix, let sit and add to the broth! I added some mirepoix and cooked chicken for a little something extra.

Hobbs Inc

RP’s Pasta Company.

This company is based out of Madison, WI and sources most of its ingredients locally. This is the best fresh gluten free pasta I’ve enjoyed to date. Using the simplest ingredients, RP’s makes gluten free fusilli, linguini, fettuccine, lasagna sheets and spinach fettuccine. The pasta takes only 2-3 minutes to cook and can be used with any of your favorite sauces!

Hannah’s Healthy Bakery.

hannahs bakery 2

I have been searching for the perfect baking mix, often times having to make my own mixes for pancakes, muffins, cookies, but Hannah’s solved all that. This online bakery sells mixes and baked goods to fit everyone’s needs – from gluten free, paleo, vegan, sugar-free – the list goes on. I used Hannah’s Paleo/Gluten Free/Sugar Free baking mix to make cinnamon raisin muffins. Using the baking mix as a base, I just had to add a few more ingredients and had perfect muffins. This mix can be used for cookies, pancakes and more. I can’t wait to try the baked goods as well!

Sold at: Online at Hannah’s Healthy Bakery

Editor’s note: Quinoa is a wonderful gluten-free carb that still has the comfort food that you can add to soups instead of noodles that contain gluten.

Case in point: Try this amazing beef “barley” aka quinoa recipe here from SkinnyTaste. HG-approved!
