Hoboken Girl’s Mani Monday: J Nail & Spa {Jersey City}

This week we are taking #HGmanimonday to the streets of Jersey City. J Nail & Spa {located at 265 Grove Street} is (you guessed it) conveniently only blocks from the path and one of my favorite restaurants, Tacqueria.

J Nail & Spa is an incredible find, especially for someone who works in JC and is looking for a quick mani during their lunch break…which is exactly what I did!

Customer Service.

Though this was a rather quick ‘on-the-go’ experience, the ladies of J Nail & Spa were attentive and accommodating. I had called in the AM for my mid-afternoon appointment and was easily placed for the time requested.

As I walked in, the front part of the salon was occupied by only one other client and I was encouraged to select a color and get started. The manicurist had asked what shape I preferred and if I wanted my cuticles cut (typical questions but not always the case) and I appreciated the thought prior to starting the service.

This is a SMALL detail but have you ever noticed that at some salons they put only a tiny but of oil on your cuticles and barely rub it in? At J Nail & Spa, they were not stingy and laid it on there – so nice for someone whose nails have become exceptionally dry.

Polish Selection.

Holy – Guacamole. They have a ton to choose from! They have much more regular polish to choose from than the gel, but that doesn’t discredit the colors they have available in gel. Mostly Essie and OPI, they also carry Vinylux and Color Club. I would recommend taking advantage of their regular polish selection, especially if you are going on your lunch break.

Pricing.

A regular mani is $12 and the extra “design” I got was $1 per nail. A gel manicure is $33 and a regular pedicure is $25. If you choose to get a ‘spa’ pedicure, there are a ton of different choices to choose from – green tea, olive, lemon, lavender, sea salt to name a few cost $50.

Note: Tipping is in ca$h only, and if you pay for your service with a card they charge you slightly more {which I was not aware of, #eyeroll}.

Vibe.

With a modern salon this charming, I am surprised they don’t carry more prestige polish like Smith & Cult or RGB. It is SO SO cute…AND clean! I love the exposed brick, the light gray floors, the lighting, shelves, and the  large space is amazing if you’re with a few colleagues or friends too.

The day/time that I went was perfect and I was in and out under thirty minutes. Now going after work hours when everyone is getting off of the path may be a different story, so be sure to make an appointment ahead of time!

^Pictured here, I mixed “Tying the Knottie” and “Angel Food’ by Essie as my base. The Coral Neon unfortunately was not labeled but if I had to guess, I’d say it is ‘Tangerine,’ by Essie.

I will definitely be back to dabble in some of J Nail & Spa’s polish selection in the future…I’ve also got my eye on a spa pedicure too. Next on my list is scoping out a nail spot that carries the Essie Gel Couture collection! Give us a shout if you find a local salon that has this – I am dying to give it a whirl.

Have you had a Hoboken salon experience and lived to tell the nail tale?
