NJ.com reports that legendary Maxwell’s Tavern is closing again. Maxwell’s announced on their social media sites early last week that they would be “winding down operations” and hosting two last shows. Maxwell’s has undergone quite some turmoil over the past few years — closing in July 2013, reopening in 2014 under new owners, and now closing down again. The final open mic night will be held on February 9th at 8:30PM and the final show on February 10th at 7:00PM.

Weehawken is Closing Side Streets to Commuters

According to CBS, Weehawken side-streets, most notably Hackensack Plank Road and Pleasant Avenue, will no longer be open to non-residents traveling to the highway. Starting on February 13th, commuters will face road restrictions between the hours of 7:00AM to 10:00AM and 3:00PM to 7:00PM unless they are a Weehawken resident. Many drivers utilize the aforementioned streets as a way to get to 495 and avoid Lincoln Tunnel traffic. The Mayor of Weehawken stated, “In certain locations where the commuter traffic completely shuts down the neighborhood, the police have been complaining that emergency vehicles haven’t been able to get through.” Many people, including the Mayor, cite traffic apps such as Waze as one of the primary reasons for the recent influx of cars on Weehawken roads. How this can be enforced remains to be seen.

In a recent letter to patrons, the Hoboken Public Library apologized for the significant delays and issues they have had fulfilling interlibrary loan requests in a timely manner. Several months ago, the state’s library delivery service, Expak, was implemented and has greatly underwhelmed the expectations of libraries statewide. LibraryLinkNJ, a nonprofit organization that serves all NJ libraries, is working on securing a new delivery provider in light of this widespread issue. Unfortunately a timeframe for this change has yet to be established. Lucky for Hoboken residents, the library has created a Google Form where you can submit materials suggestions. If the book, DVD, Blu-Ray, CD, audiobook, video game, etc. you want is not in Hoboken, you can fill out the form and the staff will make every effort to purchase the item for the collection.

NJ Transit Contemplates Sleep Test Requirement

According to NJ.com,The National Transportation Safety Board is expected to release a statement advocating for more sleep apnea testing as a result of the fatal crashes at Hoboken Terminal and Brooklyn. According to Sarah Feinberg, former head of the Federal Railroad Administration, “We’ve been trying to regulate sleep apnea for years. Sleep apnea has been a huge problem in the transportation community for a long time. This is not a new condition.” Despite the fact that the engineers in Hoboken and Long Island involved in accidents suffered from sleep apnea, investigators could not find evidence in their medical records that either individual was tested for the disorder.

Bike Share Expansion Survey — Your Feedback Needed!

After months of bike share frustration, Mayor Bhalla of Hoboken and Mayor Fulop of Jersey City have agreed to discuss how to better integrate Hudson Bike Share and CitiBike in their cities, reports Jersey Digs. Currently, Hoboken houses Hudson Bike Share bikes and Jersey City houses CitiBike. Preliminary plans would include three new stations in each city for each type of bike share so that users can cross cities with their bikes. Make sure to fill it out!
