Elevated Mixology + A Raw Bar in Hoboken: The Stingray Lounge

While Hoboken is well-known for having a slew of restaurants and bars, it’s not every day that a bar with an emphasis on mixology is found in the Mile Square. That’s about to change after this post — introducing one of our hidden gems [albeit ON the beaten path] Stingray Lounge. At this uptown bar, we get the best of both Hoboken worlds: easy access {it’s located at 1210 Washington Street} but also a chill, well-designed vibe and bartenders that create bangin’, handcrafted cocktails. Here’s more about a recent visit to the Stingray Lounge in Hoboken for some seafood and craft cocktails:

Upon walking in during an evening, there’s a dimly-lit bar on your left, and a raw bar directly in front. The modern space has an elevated vibe, while still feeling cozy and intimate. All of the bottles are lit up in a colorful way behind the counter— making the ambiance feel urban and NYC-esque while welcome in the same regard.

Open the cocktail menu and you’ll find a slew of drinks and elixirs perfect for a low key girls night or date night. Garnishes, syrups, and other fixings are among the mixology picks. While there’s a menu with great liquor and wine options, ask the bartender about the “off menu” drinks. Most of them know what you’re talking about.

The seafood selection is serious {and quite fresh}, as the space functions as both a raw bar {around a chef’s table no less} and houses a kitchen in the back for appetizers made-to-order. The menu changes weekly based on the market, so it’s worth a call to double check their menu before heading over {unless living dangerously [spontaneously?] is your thing…}. Here’s a peek at the menu when we were there:

There are a bunch of seats lined up along the bar, and around the corner to the right, there are a few larger tables for bigger groups {food is available at the bar or the tables}. On certain nights — aka Sunday through Tuesday — you can enjoy half-off oysters and champagne. Hellooo date night.

Crowd-wise, you’ll find a more mature crowd {average seemed to be 28-40 when we were there} and music is background noise, rather than the forefront of the situation, making conversation easy. If you go there alone, there’s a chance you may be able to meet others sitting along the bar, even though the tight/narrow space of the joint makes it a little difficult to fit more than 1-2 people across. Either way, not having to shout over music = sold.

Stingray Lounge opened in October 2014 and since then, they’ve been nothing short of unanimously positive Yelp and Google Reviews. It seems the only time people have complained about things is due to prices, but again, you’re paying for delicious food + cocktails and an intimate, upscale vibe. Totally worth it.
