We posted about this in the last edition of Word on the {Washington} Street, but for this event, we figured it’s worth a reminder. Pluussss — we have a special deal for HG readers {see below!}. Propelify, the outdoor innovation festival on Pier A, is a day dedicated to innovation, technology and business, and features industry leaders as speakers and presenters as well as a start-up competition, food, drinks, and music. Cocoa Bakery to Open in Jersey City Heights

via

Jersey City Heights will soon get a new bakery at 475 Central Avenue. This will be the second location for Cocoa Bakery, which was founded by Nobu Pastry Chef Jessica Isaacs. The first location is located downtown at 275 Grand Street. Jersey Digs tells us this new location was home to Goehrig’s Bakery for 80 years before they closed for unknown reasons in 2014. Glad Cocoa Bakery will be keeping baked goods alive and well on Central Ave!

Hoboken to Celebrate Infrastructure Week

Hoboken will celebrate Infrastructure Week, a national initiative sponsored by the US Water Alliance which is aimed at highlighting the need for investing in infrastructure. The Hoboken event will highlight two green infrastructure projects in which the acquisition of land and stormwater management are being funded by low cost loans and grants provided by the NJ H2LOands Financing Program. Southwest Park, the first project being highlighted, is being designed to capture 150,000 gallons of stormwater runoff while providing green space for the neighborhood. The Northwest Resiliency Park is a six-acre plot that is hoping to have underground storage capacity for up to one million gallons of stormwater run-off. Plans are still being finalized for the park.

Hoboken Stands Against Vape Van “Hate Rant”

Controversy struck this week after an incident was caught on video involving the owner of 9th Cloud Vape, a mobile vape van and bar. On the video, the owner is heard saying, ““Go back to your own country, you f****** [immigrant],” while addressing a group of pedestrians on 5th and Washington. The community spoke about against the situation, including a statement from Mayor Zimmer in which she said, “The hate speech by the Vape Van owner is reprehensible and does not represent Hoboken’s diverse and inclusive community.”
