Hello Hudson County! We hope you had a fabulous weekend {and a very Happy Mother’s Day to all the mamas out there}! It’s been a busy week: Flatbread Grill and Cuteticles have both officially opened their second locations, Cake Boss got inducted into the NJ Hall of Fame, and The Rivington apartment complex sold for a whopping $146 million. All of this and more below — here are your top news stories of the week in Hoboken and Jersey City:

Flatbread Grill’s Second Location is Open for Business

Flatbread Grill has officially opened their Jersey City location. Located at 26 Journal Square, the Mediterranean bakery and grill {soon-to-be-franchise} is owned and operated by a trio of sisters whose first location is on Washington Street in Hoboken. Flatbread Grill serves salads, sandwiches, and platters made with a choice of flatbread, grilled chicken, beef, or vegetables and a variety of sides ranging from fries to grilled veggies — and is V delicious. What makes Flatbread Grill truly unique is that all items are made-to-order, which allows patrons with all types of dietary restrictions to have a successful dining experience. Vegan patrons can look forward to vegan bread and rice, and those with grain sensitivity will be happy to know that their falafel is flour-free. Be sure and stop by to try the sisters’ favorite menu item: Thumb Bread, created from an original recipe and inspired by traditional Turkish pide {bread}.

There’s a new restaurant coming to 221 Washington in Hoboken {former home to 1 Republik}. Madd Hatter announced their future home in Hoboken on Instagram last week. Although little is known about the future restaurant and its cuisine, we will be sure to keep you updated as more details are released.

CEO of Sephora Visits Sephora Studio Hoboken

Sephora Studio Hoboken posted on their Instagram that their CEO, Calvin McDonald, visited the Mile Square location last week. McDonald checked out the new studio, visited with the team, took some hilarious photos with the “Hello Hoboken,” floor tiles. We hope he is as thrilled with the store as we are! Cake Boss Inducted into New Jersey Hall of Fame

According to NJ1015, “Cake Boss” Buddy Valastro was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame last weekend. Valastro and 17 other people including Steven Van Zandt, Maryl Streep, Harlan Coben, The Four Seasons, Gloria Gaynor, and Debbie Harry were inducted. Governor Murphy spoke at the ceremony stating, “Induction into the New Jersey Hall of Fame is the highest civilian honor that our state can bestow on someone. It’s a celebration of New Jersey that inspires the next generation of New Jersey leaders. Our inductees remind us how so many of our citizens have transformed the world, and how proud we should be of that fact as New Jerseyans.”

ARTSpeaks Showcases Two Leading Jersey City Artists

ARTSpeaks, an innovative artist talk by Jersey City Theater, returns May 25th and will showcase two Jersey City-based painters. Ray Arcadio specializes in surreal pop art imagery and was a founding member of the early 1990s Jersey City-based political art movement, ARTFUX. Kati Vilim is a Hungarian immigrant and abstract artist best known for her geometric imagery and inventive applications of color theory. The matchup of surrealistic pop versus modern abstraction will surely be thought-provoking for all attendees. The event will be held in the intimate Black Box Theater at Merseles Studios from 7:30PM – 10:00PM. A $5.00 donation, which includes a raffle ticket, is suggested. The Hamilton Inn and Hamilton Pork Block Party

The Hamilton Inn and Hamilton Pork Block Party will be held on May 19th and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Hamilton Park Neighborhood Association. Food and drinks will be available from vendors such as Hamilton Pork, The Hamilton Inn, and Mil Sugar Love. Bella’s Face Painting and Panache Studio will be hosting activities for children and all will enjoy the musical numbers by George Soull. Be sure to stop by 708 Jersey Avenue between 11:00AM-7:00PM.

Hoboken Welcomes Back Propelify Innovation Festival

The Propelify Innovation Festival is returning to Hoboken for the second year in a row. Over 10,000 attendees from around the tri-state area are expected to attend the festival dedicated to advancing innovation and technology with tech, talks, exhibitors, startups, investors, music, food, drinks, and more. Activities such as investor speed dating, drone demos, and over 50 speakers across two stages are part of this year’s line-up. For a full list of events be sure to check out the schedule here. la côte Celebrates Their Opening with a Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

One of Jersey City’s newest restaurants, la côte, celebrated their opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony last Friday. They’re located at 199 Warren Street in Paulus Hook and will feature French cuisine from Nice {with Northern Italian influences}. The restaurant will focus on simple, high-quality ingredients highlighting olive oil, tomato, lemon, fresh herbs and other tastes of the Riviera, according to Jersey City Eats. La côte is run by a local husband-and-wife duo and will be open for dinner at 5:00PM from Monday – Saturday.

The Rivington Hoboken Sold for $146 Million

The $146 million sale of The Rivington, brokered by HFF, is the largest apartment sale in New Jersey year-to-date, reports Rebusiness Online. The 240-unit complex is located at 1130 Grand St. and spans two blocks in totality. The buyer was Equity Residential and they purchased the property free of existing debt. The property was originally built in 1999 but has since undergone renovations. Amenities such as a fitness center, private courtyard with grills and lounge areas, and resident shuttle round out the luxury apartment lifestyle.

Cuteticles Opens Second Location in The Heights

Cuteticles is celebrating the grand opening of their second location on May 14th. Located at 389 Central Ave, Floor 2, Cuteticles will be taking over the former location of The Nail Loft. Be sure to schedule your appointment online and receive a complimentary crystal soak treatment with your pedicure – while sipping on some sangria, of course.

Crepe Guru is Moving to Jersey City

According to Jersey City Upfront, Crepe Guru, formerly located on Washington Street in Hoboken, is moving to Jersey City. The shop is opening at 110 Bright Street, which is the former location of Banyan Cafe. Crepe Guru specializes in freshly made crepes with sweet or savory fillings. Standout creations the Nutty Caramel Apple {warm apple pie filling cooked with cinnamon and topped with crushed walnuts, caramel, and vanilla ice cream} The Smores Crepe {melted marshmallows topped with crushed Graham crackers and covered in Nutella chocolate} and more. Delivery begins on May 15 and the storefront opens on June 1.

Behind the Waves Sushi Set to Open Soon in Jersey City

Las Olas, which was formerly located in Hoboken, is back! The restaurant manager, sushi chef, and kitchen chef have decided to continue the legacy of Las Olas via a food truck. Las Olas means “The Waves” and the fourteen letters in the name “Behind the Waves” stand for the fourteen employees that originally helped establish and run Las Olas in Hoboken for the seven years it was in business. The Las Olas “Behind the Waves” food truck will be making the rounds through Jersey City in the next few weeks. Their menu can be found here and the team shared that the price point will be more affordable than their former brick-and-mortar restaurant.

Milk Sugar Love to Open Second Location in Jersey City Heights

One of Jersey City’s premier ice cream spots, Milk Sugar Love, is set to open its second location in Jersey City Heights this fall. The organic ice cream shop announced the news on its Instagram this past week. The new space will be located at 394 Palisade Avenue in Jersey City but will serve the same delicious, organic, from-scratch ice cream. Hoboken Says No More to Boat Dumping in Weehawken Cove

NBC New York reports that Hoboken officials will be cracking down on boat-owners who abandon their vessels in the Weehawken Cove. Last Monday, two boats were removed from the water and onto a barge. Four additional boats can be seen in the cove in various states of disarray. One boat has been abandoned since Hurricane Sandy. Removing the two boats last week cost the city more than $15,000 that will be charged to the boat’s owners if identified.

Lutze Biergarten is Soft Opening on Wednesday

Lutze Biergarten is set to open this week for the summer season. The Jersey City waterfront Biergarten opened last year and quickly became a local favorite. This year, Lutze is adding brick-oven pizza run by Pizza Vita, party platters, desserts, a kids menu, and a variety of new specialty items. Lutze is located at 32nd Street and parking is available for $5 directly across the street. This season’s hours will be Monday-Thursday 4:00PM-10:00PM, Friday and Saturday from 12:00PM-12:00AM, and Sunday from 12:00PM-10:00PM. Be sure and stop by for happy hour on your way home from work any day starting Wednesday!

Scotland Yard Closes

Popular Hoboken bar, Scotland Yard closed its doors for good on Saturday night. The closing was a surprise to many as it was just announced this week via a sign above the entrance. Patrons celebrated with discounted drinks all weekend.
