Good morning and happy Sunday, Hoboken and Jersey City! We certainly hope you are ready for the Music & Arts Festival today, but before the fun gets started, we’ve gotta catch you up on the busy week. A few things to get you started: Asana Soul Practice is opening its second location and the Golden Carrot is celebrating its third anniversary with some serious raffle prizes for eligible customers. All this and more below — here are your top news stories of the week in Hoboken and Jersey City {May 6th, 2018}:

Asana Soul Practice is Opening in Jersey City

Asana Soul Practice is opening in Jersey City this September. Asana focuses on vinyasa style yoga, meditation, and music. The Jersey City location will be Asana’s second studio in Hudson County, the first being in Hoboken. In celebration of their announcement, Asana is giving away one yearlong unlimited membership with access to both locations. Be sure to check out their Facebook post for details on entering. The winner will be announced on May 15th. Congrats to this awesome yoga studio‘s expansion!

Farmer’s Market Returns to Garden Street

Hoboken’s Garden Street farmer’s market, located in the cobblestone courtyard at the cross of 14th and Garden, opened for the season yesterday. This market is open every Saturday, regardless of the weather, from 9:00AM-2:00PM. Kids crafts, live music, and specialty vendors will be making appearances throughout the season, which runs from May 5th through December 22nd. Vendors include Choc O Pain, Hoboken Farms, Lizzmonade, Mo Green Juice, Paolo’s Kitchen, Picklelicious, Schnackenbergs, Stony Hill Farms, Squirrel & the Bee, and more.

Golden Carrot Celebrates Three Years

The Golden Carrot, located at 1102 Washington, is celebrating their third anniversary in Hoboken. To celebrate this milestone, customers who spend $100 from now until May 13th will be entered into a raffle to win a select piece of jewelry. Check out their Instagram post to see a full gallery of all eligible prizes.

Mayor Bhalla to Hold Office Hours

Mayor Bhalla will be holding his first open office hours on Wednesday, May 9th from 5:00PM-7:00PM. Office hours will be held in the Community Room of the Hoboken Housing Authority located at 221 Jackson Street. Bhalla stated, “This is an opportunity for Hoboken residents to talk to me directly about what’s working for them and what issues need to be addressed. As your mayor, I work for you. I look forward to the first of many open office hours.” Additional office hours for 2018 will be announced at a later date.

Dolce e Salato Coming to 1101 Grand Street in Hoboken

Dolce & Salato is an Italian eatery coming soon to 1101 Grand Street. The uptown cafe will offer NW Hoboken residents authentic Italian cuisine in the form of salads, pastries, sandwiches, and more. Doors to open sometime in June. More details to come!

 

Mision Burritos Opening Soon in Jersey City

Mision Burritos announced on Instagram that they will soon be opening in Jersey City. Their future storefront will be located at 333 Palisade Avenue. Stay tuned for updates regarding their opening and menu items in the coming weeks.

Construction & Community Park to Join Exchange Place Station

 

According to Mayor Fulop, Exchange Place Station’s iconic statue, pictured above, will soon be removed and placed into storage while Exchange Place undergoes some engineering updates. While the area is being repaired, the City has decided to seize the opportunity to turn the nearby area into an open park with grass benches and seating for the community. Mayor Fulop hopes that this update will revitalize the surrounding area. The statue is set to return following the end of construction.

WalletHub Names Jersey City the Most Diverse City in the US

According to Jersey City NJ’s Instagram, Jersey City has been named the most diverse city in the United States by WalletHub. This article, in particular, is the final installment in WalletHub’s diversity study series. This study combined household diversity and religious diversity with their previous reports on socioeconomic diversity, cultural diversity and economic diversity. WalletHub ranked 501 of the largest cities across 13 metrics within the five major diversity categories. Their takeaway – economies generally fare better when they openly embrace and capitalize on new ideas. The future is looking bright for JC.

The City of Hoboken is Hiring Summer Employees for Green Jobs Program

The City of Hoboken is looking for high school students ages 14-17 for its Summer Green Jobs Program. The ideal applicant is someone who is committed to improving Hoboken parks, streets, and public places. Employees in the Summer Green Jobs Program will first go through 10 hours of training in green infrastructure installation and maintenance and will then become part-time City employees providing seasonal assistance to the Department of Environmental Services. Trainees will be responsible for shade tree maintenance, park cleanup, and green infrastructure installation and maintenance and will also have to opportunity to attend additional training workshops such as resume writing, community emergency preparedness, and financial literacy. Interested participants are invited to apply at the Department of Human Services located on the second floor of City Hall. Applications must be received by May 11th and interviews will take place May 21-25, 2018. The six-week employment program that will run from July 9th – August 16th and from 9:00AM-2:00PM, Monday through Thursday.

Pier 13’s 30-Foot Inflatable Duck Gets Blown Down Hudson River

A sunny and fun Thursday at Pier 13 quickly turned around when wind + rainy weather rolled in, causing patrons to flee and Pier 13’s mascot {a 30-foot hot pink inflatable duck} to fly down the Hudson River. The duck made it all the way downtown {near Sinatra Park} before it was rescued by two of Pier 13’s managers who got on a boat to save it. See more on how it all went down here.
