It’s no secret Jersey kids live on the beach, Bruce, and bagels — and residing in Hoboken doesn’t change any of that. So when New Jersey-created O’Bagel expanded to Hoboken, it was no surprise that it would be an often-frequented midtown bagel spot by many. But after being open for about 6 months at the {new} location, owner of O’Bagel, Stephen, has decided to take his culinary knowledge and passion to the next level by providing a healthy and gluten-free menu {yes, at a bagel shop}.

The newest menu is filled with a variety of quinoa and potato bowls to specifically reach their customers who are conscious about eating healthy and living a clean lifestyle.

Stephen compares the opening of the Hoboken branch of O’Bagel to being in the music industry, saying “when we first opened, we had to see what customers were in the market for. So we started with a limited menu and kept on building. Once we learned what the demand was and we were able to experiment and extend our options. In the music industry, you learn what your fans are into and you’re either a one-hit-wonder or you evolve and keep making hits.”

Among the quinoa bowls are some delicious combos of veggies, grains, and dressings; one fave is the Fiesta Bowl — shredded chicken, romaine, pineapples, jalapeños, shredded chicken, and red onions — served with homemade avocado cilantro dressing. Another delish options is the Mangia Bowl — shredded chicken, spinach, arugula, sundried tomatoes, roasted red peppers, all served with homemade Tuscan dressing. NOM NOM NOM.

Stephen describes his menu as a labor of love — and memories. He takes an artistic approach when it comes to food, offering sandwiches he’s been making since he was a kid.  “All of our sandwiches are named after hometown schools or childhood memories,” he shared.

The original O’Bagel location was founded in Long Hill Township, and so it was only appropriate that the first sandwich named was called the “Watchung Warrior” sandwich {stuffed pastrami, egg and Swiss topped with a crispy hash brown and spicy mustard} is one of the first breakfast sandwiches Stephen made when he was just 11 years old. “The Riverwalk” {homemade chicken salad with their famous chipotle aioli, cheddar cheese, lettuce and tomato} represents another O’Bagel location in Basking Ridge, NJ that opened in 2003. Each sandwich on the menu signifies different moments in his life.

When it comes to potato bowls, O’Bagel offers an option of either sweet potatoes or cajun home fries — with add-ons of turkey bacon and cheddar, turkey breast, pastrami and swiss, or sausage. All of the bowls can be grabbed on-the-go, pre-packaged for the morning rush.

And last but certainly not least, {and maybe not exactly the ‘healthiest’ option — but they are new}: the cream cheese additions to the menu. Between oreo, Reese’s peanut butter, and jalapeño bacon cream cheese, O’Bagel now has some amazing new flavored spreads.

There you have it. A few delicious, healthier options on the O’Bagel menu — but no matter what you choose, it’s bound to be carb HEAVEN, that’s for sure. Thanks for the tasting, O’Bagel!
