It’s been nearly a year since construction permits were posted inside the 3 Second Street property, also known as Harborside Plaza 10. An LLC registration titled “Ondo Jc LLC” was filed on February 23, 2021. Since then, construction has been underway to renovate the former location, Ground Connection Coffee, which closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Last year, Jersey Digs reported that Ondo will be operated by the same owners as DomoDomo, Jae Park, and Brian Kim. The same report shared that Ondo will take over the liquor license once used by Indio’s Place since a liquor license transfer between the two businesses was approved last month.
Ondo will join other restaurants at 3 Second Street including Hudson & Company, an upscale gastro-pub offering over 100 craft beers; The Atelier, an elegant multi-purpose ballroom for events, receptions, and seminars; and Smorgasbar, an outdoor seasonal eatery known for its craft beers and cocktails.
About DomoDomo
The sister restaurant of Ondo, DomoDomo is a Jersey City favorite for sushi. It is a Domokase-style sushi restaurant that opened in October 2019 at 200 Greene Street. DomoDomo came to Jersey City after making a name for itself in New York City, and it’s currently on Michelin’s Bib Gourmand 2021 list.

The owners, who happen to be brothers-in-law, will bring their talent to Ondo to create an unforgettable dining experience. Per the website, Jae Park was a former retail designer at the “world’s largest interior architecture firm, Gensler.” Brian Kim, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, is a chef with over 15 years of experience in the food industry.

Renderings of the interior design of Ondo, posted by Jersey Digs, show a modern vibe with lots of wooden structures and open space. The windows bring in natural lighting and the seats are spaced apart. The minimalistic decor in the dining room is punctuated with greenery throughout.
