In the world of nails and polish (aka my world), we have seen a new trend with long wear polish. {Not gel, not regular — but long wear that looks like gel sans the wait time and harmful UV light}. I think many of our readers would agree, it has certainly been a life-saver in this cold weather and to keep our fingers looking fresh. The only downside is not many salons have not picked up on this trend just yet. We previously reported on where to find Essie Gel Couture which can be found in select nail spots {Modern Nails, Dream Nails, Gotham Nails, and The Nail Bar to name a few} — but we have another life-saving faux-gel polish that you must try. Ladies and gents, meet OPI Shine.

OPI SHINE

OPI Shine is very similar to Essie Couture – skip the base coat, apply 2 layers of polish + the OPI Shine topcoat. The one major difference between Essie Couture and OPI Shine is that OPI Shine takes a really…really long time to dry. If you are willing to sit for a solid 20 minutes at the mani dryers and not touch anything for 2 hours after, you should absolutely go for it. This polish looks BEAUTIFUL and lasts a solid 10 days without any wear or chips.

PROS vs CONS

The dry time can really be a drag, but if you are looking for something more long term than regular with less commitment than gel – this is something to consider. You can also remove this polish with regular nail polish remover without soaking in acetone. Major win. Once this polish is set, it takes on a really nice shine [hence the name] and could truly be duped for a gel mani!

WHERE TO FIND IT

To no surprise, Modern Nails carries a wide variety of OPI Shine shades and charges an extra $5 {this is pretty standard}. I have been on the prowl to nail down other local nail salons that have OPI Shine in stock, but I have not been successful [if you see it in town please let us know!]. OPI Shine carries some winter colors that seriously #SLEIGHALLTHEWAY. The color shown below looks stunning on any skin tone or nail shape.

Update: One of our lovely readers has dropped some knowledge that Tutti Nails also carries OPI Shine. Praise!

Be sure to check out OPI Shine for the holidays {PS: this is not sponsored, we just lurrvvvee this new faux-gel craze}! And of course, comment below on your take on the long wear polish 🙂
