Gaia’s Cavern in Jersey City is serving up all-natural everything, from teas to soaps to facials to foot baths to crystals and more. Located at 140 Wayne Street in the Dixon Mills complex, Gaia’s Cavern is owned by local Jersey City salon Lakoet’s owner, Kathleen Varco (also known as Kitty). We stopped by a few years back and had such a pleasant experience, so we’re taking a look back at our visit. Read on for more about Gaia’s Cavern in Jersey City, New Jersey.
All About Gaia’s Cavern
True to Lakoet’s eco-friendly salon roots, Gaia’s Cavern is a therapeutic spa and organic retail boutique that is sure to please even the most organic-loving spa-goers. The space provides facials using Eminence organic skin care, a high-quality organic line, and it’s clear so much thought and love went into creating the space.
Aretha, the resident skincare esthetician at Gaia’s, is an absolute pro. She recommended The Ultimate Skin Smoothie as a treatment, and it did not disappoint. The Ultimate Skin Smoothie is Aretha’s customized facial, and since it was such a zen time, it was necessary to ask what went down since half the time was spent snoozing and ultra-relaxed.

Here’s what Aretha said she did during the treatment:
“I started with a lemon cleanser mixed with a strawberry rhubarb dermafoliant, 2nd cleanse with Mangosteen lactic cleanser (mangosteen is considered the queen of super fruits and the highest in antioxidants and mainly found in Thailand). Then, I did a pineapple enzyme followed by an AHA fruit pulp and lime — a stimulating treatment that has a good amount of heat-paprika in it. Next up: I massaged you with a Neroli balm and masked with a strawberry rhubarb (hyaluronic acid) mixed with an age-corrective bamboo masque containing a natural retinol. Final touches of serums, eye, lip, and at last the mineral SPF by Eminence of cherries and berries!”
And truly, you’ll have no choice but to be enveloped in a purple and white heated facial chair that adjusts to your body — most likely snoozing in a flash — complete with organic and delicious scents, hot towels, and rejuvenating serums. Relaxation = complete.
The Eminence line was so rejuvenating that a purchase was deemed necessary. The mineral SPF is something to write home about — it creates a slight sheen, balancing skin tone and adding protection from the elements. It’s perfect for when not want to wear a CC or cream foundation but still get some SPF coverage.
And speaking of purchases, Gaia’s Cavern is unique in that anyone can come for a facial, massage, or foot bath, but it’s also fine to stop in just for some loose teas (all made in NJ — the spot has a variety of unique flavors to choose from) or handmade soaps (made by Kitty herself).
For those wanting some zen to take beyond soaps and tea, Gaia’s sells crystals, sage, and CBD items (the CBD gummies are a *must*).
^ No that’s not a smoothie…it’s soap.
