You’ve never seen Italian cuisine like this before…even in Hoboken! Pici Pasta Bar has just opened its doors for its soft opening and with fresh pasta made on-site, the Mile Square has some legitimately delicious pasta contenders added to the mix. {Pici Pasta Bar isn’t the only recent opening in Hoboken. Pici joins Hidden Coffee Grounds and The Winston as the newest, forthcoming additions to our little city.} The pasta bar soft-opened on July 5th at 70 Hudson Street in Hoboken.

We stopped by for a closer look at the menu and what Pici has to offer. The menu — which is broken up into three categories: Fresh Pasta, Foccacia Sandwiches, and To Share — features fresh pasta options like spaghetti pomodoro, fusilli pesto, and a pappardelle porcini with porcini mushrooms, cream, and parsley.

“We believe pasta should be enjoyed fresh. Freshly made pasta has a texture unlike boxed pasta,” the Pici website states. “Its coarse texture allows sauce to cling to pasta, soaking up all the flavors of our homemade sauces.”

Pici is different than other Italiano cucinas around the area {even though yes, we have a TON}, as it’s slightly elevated from a ‘deli’ feel but still fast-casual, combined with fresh ingredients and homemade care with which their chefs make each dish — right on-site. The owners are also connected to Tidal Poke Co and Short Grain in JC, FYI, so you know they’re invested in quality #eeeeeats.

“We are dedicated to bringing classic Italian flavors using the freshest and highest quality ingredients whenever possible,” their website bio says. “We believe that quality Italian food should be accessible to everyone, affordable, and convenient.”

The spot also features some shareable dishes, good for 2-4 people depending on sizing. Under their ‘To Share’ section of the menu, Pici lists a caesar salad {note for vegetarians and vegans: the dressing is made with anchovies}, meatballs, foccacia sticks, and a garlicky lemon breadcrumb burrata. Dishes run between $10-$13, and so far we don’t see any gluten-free items offered for our Celiac readers.

Is there vino available at Pici? No word yet on whether or not Pici has its liquor license or if it’s a BYOB-type scenario. We’re assuming the latter. More information to come! For now, there is a grab-your-own {non-alcoholic} drink section of the restaurant, which features various flavors of La Croix, Pellegrino, other sparkling waters.
