Hoboken is home to many cool things — delish restaurants, unique boutiques, and believe it our not, an indoor rock-climbing gym. The Gravity Vault Hoboken is located at 1423 Clinton Street and is a fun, alternative workout gym catering to rock climbers of all ages and abilities. Grab the kids, your bridesmaids, or your coworkers and get ready for a workout session like no other. We had the opportunity to visit Gravity Vault’s 25,000 square feet of climbing space {shout out to Kristin for the tour and crash-course in climbing lingo} and we’re giving you a peek inside:

Gravity Vault’s History

The Gravity Vault Indoor Rock Gym was founded in 2005 by Lucas Kovalcik and Tim Walsh in Upper Saddle River. Although it took several years to expand to a second location, Kovalcik and Walsh always dreamt of bringing the sport of rock climbing to communities everywhere. Fast forward to today and Gravity Vault has expanded its business to include multiple locations across the tri-state area.

While The Gravity Vault does offer a wide variety of programs targeted for children, their 25,000-square-foot climbing space is nothing like the rock conquered in gym class. Our guide Kristin explained that Gravity Vault offers three types of climbing experiences: bouldering {free climbing a boulder-like structure}, top-roping {your traditional indoor climbing experience}, and sport climbing {climbing while securing yourself to hooks anchored into the wall as your safety mechanism}. Climbers of all abilities will be able to climb at Gravity Vault and classes such as Introductions to Rock Climbing will give newcomers the skills needed to graduate from novice to competent climber. Keep an eye out for additional programing including memberships, private climbing sessions, birthday parties, camps, competitive climbing teams, and more.

Gravity Vault is open from 6:00AM-11:00PM Monday through Friday, and 9:00AM-11:00PM Saturday + Sunday, making it nearly impossible not to find the time to stop by and climb. As you make your way inside, you will find a full retail section complete with apparel, gear, and high-energy snacks. Additional amenities include locker rooms with showers, an event space for parties, and a yoga studio. One of our favorite features is the workspace complete with outlets overlooking the gym from the second story should you need to get a little work done in-between climbing sessions.
