Shaka Bowl Celebrates One Year Anniversary

Club Pilates 2023

Coditum {Coding Classes} Open House

Hobbs Inc

Coditum, Hoboken’s premiere coding school, is hosting an open house TODAY {Sunday, 10/22} from 10AM-4PM at their lab located at 720 Monroe Street. Visitors will have the chance to explore the lab, meet Coditum’s founder and teachers, and try a FREE class. What makes Coditum different from other coding classes is their proprietary curriculum, which was developed over the past 16 years. Students will never sit through external online modules or learn to recode their favorite video games. Instead, Coditum teachers will present the fundamentals of coding and work hands-on with students in settings no larger than three students. Classes are geared towards students ages 8-17, though separate classes for adults are also available. The best part? Sessions can be tailored around your schedule so won’t be locked into attending class on the same day each week. Visitors attending the open house will receive 20% off their first purchase of a class-package plus one additional free class. Mention HG and you’ll get a free class right off the bat!

Frankie’s Bar + Eatery Opens in Jersey City

From the owners of Fox and Crow in the Heights comes Frankie’s, a contemporary Australian bar and eatery located at 264 Grove Street in Jersey City in the at Charles + Co. building. Thanks to Jersey City Eats’ tip, we have been able to confirm that Frankie’s scheduled their soft opening last Thursday, October 19th, at 5PM. Over the past year, the owners of Frankie’s have been tempting us with previews of their menu at local events. Grilled shrimp with ginger, edamame coleslaw {talk about tasting the rainbow}, and lavender lemonade are just a few of the items we have been salivating over. But, what we are truly excited about is Frankie’s natural wine program – after all doesn’t the best white wine come from the land down under? Frankie’s natural wine will be made with minimal technological intervention and no chemicals during the grape growing or winemaking process. If cocktails are more your speed, you can also look forward to fresh juices, garnishes, and ingredients. Regardless of your preferences, Frankie’s will surely be our new go-to for {guilt-free} dining.

Mile Square Sideshow Spectacular

Expect the unexpected. That’s exactly the sentiment co-founders Bill McGarvey and Jim Dodge hope their show, The Mile Square Sideshow Spectacular, will bring to its audience. The founders, both Hoboken residents and seasoned veterans of the performing arts, had been toying with the idea of bringing a sideshow to the Hoboken theatre scene for quite some time. Feeling as though audiences had seen a multitude of shows featuring comedians and musicians, they sought to create a show that would bring a variety of performers to one stage, for one performance, on one night. With the sheer number of acts, Dodge stated, “If a particular musician or comedian isn’t your cup of tea, just wait five minutes and a contortionist or an acrobat or a magician will be taking the stage that will be.” While this type of performance is definitely one of a kind in Hoboken, the historic sideshow was essentially reality television before the creation of screens; people would flock to the sideshows as way of being entertained by exotic attractions. Join McGarvey, Dodge, and several other critically acclaimed performers on Friday, October 27th at the Mile Square Theatre {located at 1400 Clinton Street}. The show will begin promptly at 7:30PM. Tickets are available online for $25, but can also be purchased on the day of the show {space allowing} for $30.

Hoboken Business Center Revamp Approved by Hoboken Zoning Board

Inspired by the recent growth in the Southwest Hoboken neighborhood, the owners of the Hoboken Business Center have decided to follow suit and give their property an industrial chic makeover. According to Jersey Digs, the Hoboken Business Center was approved for expansion at the end of September. Plans include the addition three glass curtained floors to the top of the building adding nearing 50,000 square feet to the building’s overall size. Even the rooftop is being converted to a 7,000 square foot outdoor space {we are dying to see what they do with it}. Two generously sized restaurants will occupy the ground floor and diners will have parking available in 88 valet spaces or 222 traditional spaces, which should make parking a breeze {certainly by Hoboken’s standards}. More to come when construction begins.

Mayoral Debate Scheduled for Wednesday

Still deciding who to vote for in the Hoboken mayoral election? There’s still time to get in gear. With less than three weeks until the election, candidates are pushing hard to sway the remaining undecided voters. In addition to reading our comprehensive guide about the candidates, voters are invited to attend the mayoral debate on October 25th at 7PM at Stevens Institute of Technology’s DeBaun Auditorium. The debate is co-hosted by Stevens Institute of Technology and its Student Government Association. As mentioned in our previous articles, the forum will be approximately two hours long and will follow the format the Hoboken QLC established nearly ten years ago. We hope to see many of you there.

Hoboken Children’s Theater Chosen by Broadway Licensing to Perform Holiday Musical

Hoboken Children’s Theater (HCT) is often regarded as one of the tri-state’s premier theatrical companies so it was no surprise to many when Broadway Licensing announced that they have selected HCT to premier a musical adaptation of the holiday classic, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. The show follows the rambunctious Herdman family as they crash their town’s Sunday school class and demand roles in the Christmas pageant — despite never having heard the Christmas story. It’s up to the novice pageant-director to save the show and remind the community of the true reason for the season. Performances are scheduled for Friday, November 3rd at 7:00PM, Saturday, November 4th at 2:00PM + 7:00PM, and Sunday, November 5th at 2:00PM. Performances will take place at the Mile Square Theatre. Tickets will be $15 and can be purchased online. Grab your ticket early for a chance to see HCT’s Junior and Senior companies in action — after all, you never know which of the performers could be joining the company’s long list of alumni that have gone on to star on Broadway or the big screen.

Northwest Resiliency Park Planning Resumes

Plans for Northwest Hoboken’s Resiliency Park are up for discussion again. For those of you who haven’t journeyed up to that section of town recently, the proposed site of Resiliency Park is located where the pop-up park now stands. The fenced in park currently contains basketball courts, tennis courts, exercise equipment, and picnic areas covered by tent structures that have been put to good use by residents of all ages. The future park will include green infrastructure and innovative stormwater management measures similar to those implemented at the Southwest Resiliency Park. The project team will be hosting Listening Sessions to better understand your ideas for the Northwest Resiliency Park. The first of the sessions will be held from on October 21st from 11AM-3PM at the Harvest Festival on Pier A. For a complete schedule of the Listening Sessions, please visit the park’s website. Residents who cannot attend one of the sessions are encouraged to participate in the online survey, which is available on the website.
