Shaka Bowl has been serving up Açai and Hawaiian Poké bowls at 720 Monroe Street for 2 years now and is just days away from the opening of its second location. Shaka Bowl #2 will be opening at 110 Washington Street this Saturday, June 23rd. While you might think the only thing different about this second shop is the location — you’ll be pleasantly surprised. The downtown Shaka will feature new menu items such as tacos, dumplings, and other fun Hawaiian delights {some vegan, too}, plus some new features — hint: outdoor seating ;). About Shaka Bowl
Founders and sisters Kiersten and Krista went to school on The Big Island of Hawaii for 6 months where they fell in love with the culture and of course, the food. Soon after arriving back home in the states, they decided to open up Shaka Bowl and two years later are already on their second location — you go girls! As for their roles at the shops, Krista does more of the customer service and managing while Kiersten is the executive chef.
The Space
Customers will notice that the downtown Shaka Bowl is much larger than the Monroe Street location — though we love both equally, just sayin’. However, one of the most exciting things about the new spot is that there will be outdoor seating on Washington — because there’s nothing better than enjoying a fresh açai bowl outside.
As for the interior decor, everything was made uniquely for Shaka Bowl and many elements have special meanings that connect back to Hawaii {without being cheesy we might add}. The floors, for example, have a gritty texture that represents the black sand beach in Hawaii, and all pictures on the wall were taken by Kiersten and Kristen from their time on the Big Island.
You’ll also notice a massive tree stump on the ceiling {not to worry, the process of getting the tree stump was not harmful as it was already dead} that was a real lychee tree. Continuing with the wood theme, the walls are made from reclaimed wood and the tables were custom-made and cut just for Shaka.

New Menu Items
Tacos
One of the most exciting new menu items are sure to please — TACOS. Choose a protein {BBQ-pulled jackfruit [vegan], kahlua pulled pork, chicken, shrimp, steak, or tuna}, and toppings include pineapple, cabbage, pickled onion, and spicy shaka sauce. Tacos come in an order of 3 for $12.
Sides
While Shaka’s menu items promote a healthy lifestyle {smoothies, açai bowls, poke, fresh fruits, etc.}, founders Kiersten and Krista wanted their customers to have the option to indulge, too. The new sides include:
Avocado egg rolls
Edamame
Zucchini fries
Shishito peppers
Chicken teriyaki dumplings
We stopped by to try some of the new items and were super impressed. While the sides are delish and definitely a treat, we still felt good after eating them, and that’s because everything was made fresh with real ingredients. Those zucchini fries though — OMG, and the special Shaka Sauce is to. die. for.
And of course, these are just additions to the menu {but only available at the Washington Street location}, and Shaka will still have everything from their original menu {açai + poke bowls, smoothies, avocado + monkey bread, and more}. And even more exciting — Shaka Bowl will be bringing back their frozen yogurt very soon, so stay tuned!
Kombucha on Tap
Yes, that’s right — Shaka Bowl has kombucha on tap that are all infused with nitrogen. Pictured below from left to right is the Nitro matcha green tea, Rise nitro cold brew, and the Health-ade pomegranate kombucha {all served chilled with ice}.
