In July 2021, the founders of America’s largest open-air food market, Smorgasburg, announced their venture to a permanent location in Jersey City in the former Lutze location. Along with that came Smorgasbar, a beer garden with a full bar that serves up beers on tap and frozen drinks, among other options. While Smorgasburg is not returning to Jersey City again this year, Smorgasbar will return to 3 Second Street on Thursday, May 2nd. About Smorgasbar + The 2024 Opening Date
We got the exclusive back in May 2021 that the Smorgasbar project was in the works. As of July 2021, the restaurant has been open as a seasonal beer garden with a full bar. Although the outdoor food bazaar known as Smorgasburg will not be returning to Jersey City this year, Smorgasbar will be opening for the warmer months on Thursday, May 2nd. The hours (weather permitting) will be Monday-Thursday from 3PM-10PM, Friday from 3PM-11PM, Saturday from 12PM-11PM, and Sunday from 12PM-10PM. Stay updated on Smorgasbar’s website and Instagram.

While the Smorg markets were known for having an epic variety of food vendors together for a unique experience, the beer garden is at the forefront of the Jersey City location, emphasizing unique brews and drinks in the spacious indoor and outdoor space.

Smorgasbar boasts good food, drinks, live music, and events. Some of the items on the bar menu include beers on tap, wine, sparkling drinks like High Noons + Los Sundays, as well as a variety of mojitos and margaritas (flavors include passion fruit, guava, and blackberry, among other options). The margaritas are also available frozen — yes, please! Smorgasbar also serves up signature cocktails like a Moscow Mule, a Frozcal (frozen Mezcalum Mezcal, passion fruit, + mango), and a Sandia (fresh watermelon, mint, + vodka). As for the food, Smorgasbar curates a group of vendors from startups to seasoned chefs some weekends from Friday to Sunday, including some of the OG Smorgasburg vendors. During the week, food is available via two vendors — Carlitos Barbeque Taqueria and Pie Oh My.

The owners also hosted the outdoor Smorgasburg market on Saturdays at the parking lot at 195 Hudson Street, but last year, it was announced that Smorgasburg would not be returning to JC due to redevelopment in the area surrounding it. You can still experience Smorgasburg at its Williamsburg, Prospect Park, and World Trade Center locations in NYC, which are already open for the 2024 season.

St. Patrick’s Day, a celebration of Irish culture, an excuse to drink green beer, and the day where we eat as much corned beef and cabbage as we possibly can, falls on March 17th. This holiday, which was first called the Feast Day of St. Patrick, was established in 1631 by the Catholic Church to honor St. Patrick, the primary patron saint of Ireland. March 14th — Hoboken Luck Of The Irish Bar Crawl | Multiple Locations
The Luck of the Irish Bar Crawl will take place on March 14th at 5PM. Attendees should check in at Madd Hatter, located at 221 Washington Street, between 5PM to 9PM to gain entry to the crawl. March 15th — Hoboken Shamrock Stroll Bar Crawl | Multiple Locations
The shamrock stroll bar crawl begins at 12PM on March 15th, featuring over 14 bars, including The Ainsworth, Baja Mexican Cuisine, Black Bear, The Ferryman on 1st, Grove Station, Hoboken Biergarten, House of ‘Que, and more. Tickets for this event range from $9.99 to $29.99 and come with perks such as a complimentary shot glass necklace, access to a free after-party, a photographer and videographer, and more. March 15th + March 16th — Hoboken's St. Patrick's Day Paddy Hard Bar Crawl | Multiple Locations
This bar crawl will take participants all across Hoboken on March 15th and March 16th from 4PM to 10PM. Specific details regarding this event, including check-in locations and the official schedule, have yet to be announced. March 16th — Saint Patrick’s Day Party at Hoboken Elks | 1005 Washington Street
The annual Saint Patrick’s Day Party, hosted by Hoboken Elks, takes place on March 16th at 3PM. To celebrate Irish culture and traditions, this event will feature a buffet of corned beef and cabbage, Irish music, and authentic bagpipers. The cost to attend this party is $20 at the door. On March 16th at 5PM, The Shannon in Hoboken will host a festive bar party for all St. Patrick's Day lovers. Locals can expect St. Patrick's Day-themed drinks, lively music, and more. Hoboken's official St. Patrick's Day Bar Crawl has returned for 2025. This year's event, which features festive drinks and live music, takes place on March 17th at 5PM. At least 12 local bars are participating, which includes House of 'Que, The Shannon, The Ainsworth, Wicked Wolf, and Black Bear. The check-in will be at Madd Hatter, located at 221 Washington Street. March 14th — Sip + Sláinte: An Irish Whiskey Cocktail Experience at Hudson House | 2 Chapel Avenue
Cocktail enthusiasts can join Hudson House's expert mixologist for an Irish-inspired cocktail class on March 14th from 7PM to 9PM. Attendees will learn how to craft three cocktails made with Jameson Irish Whiskey and other premium spirits. There will also be paired light bites and a charcuterie spread. This bar crawl features two to three shots included with the ticket, an after-party, and over five different venues, including Boots + Bones, Hudson Hound, O'Hara's Downtown, and more.
