Hoboken Public Schools Announces New Swimming Program for Teens

Hoboken Public Schools has announced a new swimming and water safety program tailored for teens. Mastering swimming is not just a valuable life skill — it’s imperative for safety, fitness, and amusement. Whether your teen is looking to enhance their techniques or become an adept swimmer, the upcoming “Teen Learn to Swim” and “Teen Open Swim” sessions will be of use. Here’s what you need to know to make a splash this summer with Hoboken Public Schools’ new swimming and water safety program.

About the Program

This program is provided by the Hoboken Public School District. “The district’s goal is to ensure that all students learn to swim and feel confident in the water,” according to a press release. The sessions will take place at the Hoboken High School pool, located at 800 Clinton Street. The programs are free.

During the program, the pool will be staffed with Red Cross-certified lifeguards. Participants must bring personal towels and swim shoes, + proper swim attire is required. Those who want to participate must bring proof of residency in Hoboken as well as their school ID and sign in upon entry.

Learn to Swim

Learning to swim is vital for many reasons, and being safe and confident in and around water is critical. Grasping this skill as a teen before entering adulthood can save one from risky situations and allow the resilience to explore more travel destinations.

Below are the days + times  for each age range in the Learn to Swim sessions:

Zap Fitness
  • Learn to Swim for students ages 13 to 15 from 4:30PM to 5:30PM on Tuesday, July 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th, and on Thursday, August 1st.
  • Learn to Swim for students ages 16 to 18 from 5:30PM to 6:30PM on Tuesday, July 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th, and on Thursday, August 1st.

Teen Open Swim

There’s nothing like taking a dip in a cool pool on a hot day. Especially this summer, as we face our second heat wave before mid-July, we will take any excuse to cool off.

Below are the days + times for each age range in the “Teen Open Swim” sessions:

  • Open Teen Swim Time for students ages 13 to 18 from 6:30PM to 7:30PM on Tuesday, July 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th, and on Thursday, August 1st.
