The Hoboken Bride: Wedding Beauty Regimens {and Where to Go in Hoboken}

The Hoboken Bride series is back! Since I’m {Jen!} back from my honeymoon, I’ll be able to share some been-there, done-that secrets to wedding planning…because it was a blast! On tap for today is a topic that many brides can commiserate with {and also revel in…}: beauty. If we’re getting superficial here, when it comes to aesthetics, your look is probably one of the most important things to take care of in preparation for your wedding. While we’d all love to think that we just “woke up like dis,” the reality is, many brides start their beauty regimen 6-12 months before their wedding!

Here’s my regimen:

Tsujita

For skin: EC Beauty Studio

I opted for a monthly facial with EC Beauty Studio starting 6 months out from my wedding, plus one intense chemical peel and one minor chemical peel to kick things off {you may remember that here}. Erica and her team are located on the 5th floor of 44 Hudson Place {right above Rebellations and Local Barre downtown}. I frequented her spa and really got used to feeling like JLo with that outer and inner glow on the reg. I mean…facials once a month aren’t cheap, but you do feel like an absolute princess, and it’s TOTALLY worth it.

Hobbs Inc

My regimen:

– Monthly oxygen facials

– PCA chemical peel {2x}

AXIS School of Dance

– Routine/as needed extractions {2x the month before the wedding}

FYI: Mention HobokenGirl.com when you book your facial and get $10 off! They also offer $99 facials on Sundays complete with mimosas. So fun!

For teeth: Whitening at Planet Sun Tan

I think that going to the dentist 2x per year should suffice, unless you want to go more than that. If you’re into having super pearly whites, I’d recommend Planet Sun on 4th and Wash {next to Anthropologie}. They have teeth whitening for $89 — YES, you heard correctly — eighty nine. Can’t beat it! You usually are guaranteed to whiten at least 2-4 shades, and it was really effective in making my teeth super white for the big day {in fact our videographer said he could white balance off the bridal party’s teeth, ha!}.

My regimen:

– 2 DDS appointments for scheduled cleanings

– Shortly after cleaning, teeth whitening at Planet Sun {3x}

For hair: Ashley at Two 01 Hair

It’s no secret Ashley and I have a hair love affair. She’s made me ombre, purple ombre, balayage, blonde-ish, dark brunette, and most things in between. Ashley and I had a 8 week interval color appointment relationship from about a year out to the wedding, where we really discussed my hair color and what I wanted for various events {bachelorette, shower, etc}. Ashley also does a lot of my blowouts and so I wanted to have her do my hair and my bridesmaids’ hair for the wedding {which was a part of my bridesmaid gift to each of my girls in the bridal party!}. It was the most humid day, and my hair really stayed for most of the night. My veil went in and came out easily, which was so great, especially because I had decided not to wear it during the reception at all!

My regimen:

– Gray touch-ups every 8 weeks

– Color toning and highlights every 12-16 weeks

– Conditioning treatments every 4 months

– Cuts 2x in one year {I wanted my hair longggg!}

Bonus: Ashley is a doll, and is so much fun to talk to. She also does amazing wedding makeup — she did my rehearsal dinner look!

For makeup: Jules from AMA Makeup Academy

I highly recommend trying out a few makeup artists before the big day, especially if you’re not a big makeup person or don’t wear it often. You want to make sure you feel comfortable with what is on your face, that it stays ALL night, and that you don’t feel not like yourself. That is precisely why I hired Jules from AMA {see previous post here!} after having her do my makeup for style contributor Tiffany’s 30th birthday party — and then again for my bridal shower, and of course wedding! Jules and her team are so talented, professional, and really do stunning work…so much so that my whole bridal party got their makeup done with them after seeing my bridal makeup the day of {which wasn’t planned – only a few had made appointments in advance. Oops!}. These ladies rock.

Other additions to my beauty regimen:

Spray tans — I love Splash of Sun and Dina’s Kiss and Makeup! I recommend getting a few spray tans to test out the color and make sure you’re not too dark {and make sure someone takes pics of you with a tan [and if you can do it, you makeup trial] too so you see how it looks!}. Dina’s also sells those “skinny wraps” which are magical for fighting the belly bloat!

Salt Scrub Exfoliation —  I went to Bliss Spa for this a week before the wedding and it ROCKED. Felt smooth as a baby’s bottom. Their steam shower post treatment was magical also!

Massage — believe it or not, massage really does help you relax before the big day, sleep better, and it definitely contributes to looking your best! Body Balance and Massage Envy are two of my Hoboken favorites, and I frequented both throughout the year leading up to the wedding.

Manicure/Pedicures — Don’t just get a gel manicure the week of your wedding; I’d recommend one or two before that so you get used to it and test out some colors! You can opt for UV gel to make your nails longer {which is $$$, but that’s what I did!}. I went to Jeanny at Viva la Nails, and it was $120 for the UV gel set. Juni at Zeni Spa on 14th is also a whiz at color gel and some nail art. Either spot you will be really satisfied with, I promise!

Eyebrow Threading — Go to Bhumi at Dreamz Salon or the ladies at The Beauty Spot on 4th. Both are killer at beautiful, full brows!

Clean Eating — I tried a few different meal plans to get myself on track and lose those winter lbs before the wedding {about 5!}, but clean eating {with a meal plan from Iron Plate Studios} really was the best way to get my skin to be glowing and clear. Think: bye bye dairy and bye bye sugar.

These are just a few of my post-wedding beauty tips, so please use as you’d like and take with a grain of salt. Everyone’s skin, hair, nails, etc are different, depending on your style, needs, and look. However, no matter what, you should feel your best and stay true to yourself when it comes to your wedding day!

What is your beauty regimen for your wedding?
