    Welcome to the weekend — it’s been waiting for you. With back to school season in full swing, life’s about to rev up reallyyy quickly, and so will the fun activities. From events celebrating teachers to a half marathon, it’s safe to say that there’s no sign of slowing down anytime soon. Here are 13 things to do this weekend in Hoboken and Jersey City {plus a few bonus volunteer opportunities!}.

    The Flying Ivories Duo at The Shep: Friday, September 15th from 9PM – Midnight

    Get ready to rock and roll the night away at The Shepherd + The Knucklehead {1313 Willow Ave.} with a piano show by the NYC-famous piano duo, The Flying Ivories. Love what you hear? Catch The Flying Ivories at other Hoboken and NYC hotspots including House of ‘Que and Bar Nine in NYC and of course, every Friday night at the Shep.  

    Lutze Thank Our Teachers: Thursday, September 14th from 3:00PM – 10:00PM

    As the kids go back to school, let’s not forget the ones who make the school year happen: our teachers. Kick off the start of a great year with a party at Lutze Biergarten {15 Second Street} in honor of the ones who instill knowledge in our little ones.     Back to School Pampering Night at Loosen Up JC: Thursday, September 14th from 7:00PM – 10:00PM

    It’s back to school season, but not just for the kiddos! Treat yourself to a day of pampering and a dinner at Loosen Up JC {188 Newark Ave., Unit 2}, brought to you by Growing in JC, A Green Unicorn, and Loosen up JC. At the event, you’ll learn how to read food labels, proper hand massage techniques, and watch an ear acupuncture demonstration.     Interfaith Peace and Prayer Vigil Supporting DACA: Thursday, September 14th from 7:30PM – 9:30PM

    In wake of the Trump administration’s decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, the community will be gathering at Sinatra Park Amphitheater {4th Street and Sinatra Drive} to bring peace and prayer to those affected by this uneasy time. The event is open to the public, and all are invited to bring candles.

    Fear: And Annual Art Exhibition: Friday, September 15th from 6:00PM – 10:00PM

    Toy Drive For Children in the Shelter: Friday, September 15th from 4:00PM – 7:00PM

    Whether you’ve lived in Jersey City your entire life or you’re a newbie to the neighborhood, the 6th annual All About Downtown Jersey City Street Fair is a can’t-miss event with the latest and greatest vendors around town — and all in one place.     Fall in Fall Single’s Workshop at Celebrate Life Studio: Saturday, September 16th from 10:00AM – 3:00PM

    While there seems to be pressure on singles to mingle during fall {it’s cuddling season, after all}, it shouldn’t be stressful, so a singles’ workshop should do the trick. Hosted by certified matchmaker Arlene Vasquez Washburn at Celebrate Life Studio {1200 Park Ave.}, singles will get the advice and tools they need to make the move online or in-real-life.     Bike for Life with St. Jude Children’s Hospital at Cyclebar: Saturday, September 16th at 12:30PM

    Join local Hoboken mama + pediatric cancer crusader Raakhee Mirchandani for Bike For Life: Cyclebar x St. Jude and ride to raise money and awareness to mark Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The ride is September 16th at 12:30PM — bikes are $25 and 100% of the proceeds benefits St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Email raakhee.mirchandani@gmail.com to reserve a bike.

    Citywide Hurricane Harvey Relief Donations with hMAG: Saturday, September 16th  

    Hurricane Sandy was not long ago, so it’s not hard to remember the devastation it brought and the outpouring of help that came from others during that time. This time, Texas needs our help. On September 16th, hMAG is organizing a citywide donation event, where participating bars and restaurants will charge an optional $1 cover charge to donate to the Greater Houston Community Foundation’s Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund. Collections buckets will also be distributed to participating businesses.     Help Texas Cut-a-Thon at Various Locations: Sunday, September 17th  

    A slew of hair salons in Hoboken are also banding together to donate their proceeds from Sunday, September 17th, to Houston victims. Hair salons include Spesh, Lorraine’s House of Styles, Crew Hair Studios, Mark Daniel, Trim Hoboken, Blow-it-Out Lounge, Stags Only, Hoboken Hair, and Up + Out.

    24th Annual Newport Liberty Half Marathon: Sunday, September 17th at 8:30AM

    With breathtaking views of Ellis Island and the Manhattan skyline, the Newport Liberty Half Marathon makes racing to the finish line way more motivating. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that the winning runners in each category will be awarded $3,000. Celebrate breaking a sweat with the after party at Newport Town Square with refreshments, music, and tons of goodies to be raffled off. Register here.

    Autumn Equinox Sacred Circle: Sunday, September 17th from 4:30PM – 6:30PM
