Mayor Bhalla Campaigns for New Green Policy in Hoboken

hoboken plastic bag ban

Hoboken might be saying au revoir to single-use plastic bags in the near future. Mayor Bhalla is advocating for two new ordinances recently introduced at the latest City Council meeting, one of which constitutes a city-wide ban on single-use plastic bags — yep, like the ones you get at the grocery store. The ordinance would require retailers to sell reusable bags for customers instead and also put a fee of 10 cents per paper bag used. On average, each individual uses 500 single-use plastic bags per year and just one bag can take up to 1,000 years to decompose.

Jersey City Native Guest Starring on Melissa McCarthy’s New Show

Not only has she previously appeared on Grey’s Anatomy, but the actress now made a guest-star appearance on Nobodies, the TV land series brought to viewers by executive producers Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone. Sharaé acted alongside Saved by the Bell alum Mark-Paul Gosselaar, AKA high school hottie Zack Morris.

Hoboken Experiences Polling Problems During Primary

After several voting irregularities were reported throughout the city of Hoboken, Mayor Bhalla pronounced the polling problems during the primary election as “disappointing.” Due to machine malfunctions and other unforeseen technical issues, many voters were worried that their votes weren’t actually counted. For any Hoboken residents who had trouble casting their vote, the City of Hoboken’s official Twitter announced you can cast a provisional ballot at any other Hoboken polling place.

Mayor Steven Fulop rode the entire tour and told the crowd of master plans to make Jersey City more bike-friendly, including the expansion of more bikeways throughout the city thanks to Let’s Ride JC and protected bike lanes made from paint and plants, known as the Street Plans Collaborative.

New steps, who dis? The once-old and kind of rickety steps leading down from Steven’s Institute of Technology to the Frank Sinatra Drive waterfront have gotten a makeover, as one Reddit user from Hoboken pointed out online. The new-and-improved staircase, which offers a view of the New York City skyline directly across from it, features florescent bulbs that light up the pathway.

New Life Proposed for the Old Biggie’s Clam Bar

Biggie’s Clam Bar {OG location} might be the location for a new mixed-use revival project. The spot, located at 318 Madison Street, might take on new life as a recent proposal for the lot’s owners seeks a demolition of everything on the current site, making way for a new five-story building. The project proposes four residential units with an 852-square-foot retail storefront on the ground-level floor. Unfortunately there’s no hope of a food institution making its home there again, as the plans state it’s specifically “not intended for restaurant use.” What’s more, the liquor license at 318 Madison was listed for sale in 2016.

The show presented the YSL Spring/Summer 2019 Menswear collection by Anthony Vaccarello.

Very exciting news from Castle Point — Stevens Tech student Chris Ruggiero has been drafted to the NY Yankees. with the 997th overall pick by the New York Yankees in the 2018 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft Wednesday. Ruegger is only the second player in program history to be selected in MLB’s First Year Player Draft — the first in 45 years, as Dave Garcia was selected by the Minnesota Twins in 1973. “I would like to thank my family for always supporting me with everything,” Ruegger said “I also want to thank my teammates and coaches who have pushed me to be the best player I can be. To be drafted is a great honor that I really have no words for. I am extremely grateful that the New York Yankees organization saw my ability and potential. The whole process has been very exciting and I am beyond thankful that it ended with this outcome. I’m excited to see where this journey will take me, but I will always be a Duck!”

Mordi’s Schnitzel Truck opened in April 2014 out of the love of two things – Israeli street food + Jersey City, and it has now blossomed into a brick-and-mortar spot in Jersey City, located at 320 Communipaw Ave and Pine St. They’re soft opening this week 7AM-3PM with a limited menu. Chef and owner Mordechai Chichportiche {Mordi} was born and raised in Israel and loves sharing some of his favorite foods growing up with the place he now calls home. After graduating from the French Culinary Institute and working as a line-cook in NYC and Tel. Aviv, Mordi’s entrepreneurial spirit spurred him on to open is own food truck {and now restaurant}. The new spot just opened this past week, and we’re excited to check it out. Congrats on the opening!
