Sure, you can go to most pizzerias and get a cheese-less pizza, but that is not going to satisfy your dairy-free “cheesy” pizza craving {especially late night on your way home from the bar… just sayin‘}. For the vegan and dairy-free foodies who want to visit Two Boots pizzeria in downtown Jersey City, you’ll be very pleased to find not one, but FIVE vegan pies available made with vegan Daiya cheese. Two Boots, located at 133 Newark Ave, is known for their cornmeal crust, a quirky vibe, and vegan-friendly atmosphere, and bonus — they’re open until midnight most nights and until 3:30 AM on Friday and Saturday nights.} Here’s everything you need to know about the vegan slices and pies at Two Boots Pizza in JC.

V for Vegan is the vegan pie that is always available by the slice {the other vegan varieties must be purchased by the pie}. Vegans and non-vegans alike crave V for Vegan because of the amazing combination of artichoke, shitake mushrooms, red onions, basil and red bell pepper, drizzled with homemade basil pesto. This pie has been known to convert cheese-lovers to vegan pizza lovers, so be prepared for the deliciousness.

The rest of the vegan pies cannot be ordered by the slice, but trust us, you’ll want more than just one or two slices anyway. All pies can be ordered in small, medium or large. An absolute must-try favorite pie is the Vegan Larry Tate, which is a white pie made with Daiya ricotta, spinach, plum tomatoes, and garlic. The Vegan Tripper Pizza is another white pie for sun-dried tomato lovers. It is loaded with roasted garlic and, of course, sun-dried tomatoes, then drizzled with jalapeño pesto.

The Vegan Tony Clifton Pizza has shitake mushrooms, Vidalia onions, sweet red pepper pesto, and mozzarella “cheese,” while the Bubba Vegan Pizza is topped with Kalamata olives, broccoli, peppers, garlic, mushrooms and sun-dried tomatoes.

Additionally, every November, Two Boots celebrates World Vegan Month by “veganizing” their other pies. Look out for the Super Vegan Pizza, which is described as a “super infusion of broccoli, artichoke, red onion, shiitake mushroom, a criss-cross of basil and sweet pepper pestos, Daiya non-dairy cheese, and a heroic dash of homemade ricotta.” If that isn’t vegan enthusiasm, we don’t know what is!

If being uber vegan-friendly isn’t enough reason to love this place, Two Boots also supports buying local, not only serving local alcohol {they usually have gluten-free beer from Jersey City’s own Departed Soles brewery on tap}, but the walls are also adorned with custom art by one of Jersey City’s beloved local artists, Robert Pierasanti. It may be another pizza place in North Jersey, but Two Boots is certainly anything but ordinary… and we like it that way!
