If you’ve been following us for a while, you’ve probably heard about Vintage on First’s unreal {and suuuuuper shady} real estate experience at their first location in Hoboken. After a few harrowing months and two moves, we are SO happy to announce that Vintage on First is officially here to stay and has signed a long-term lease at 257 First Street in Hoboken — across the street from its current location. But before we get to the celebrations of this vintage store, lets take a quick trip down memory lane.

Early last May, we announced the opening on Vintage on First in our weekly news update. Like many of our readers, we were pumped to have another small business to peruse for unique fashion finds and accessories — not to mention that owner Mark Rosado and his team actually outfitted celebrity Macklemore when he dropped his single “Thrift Shop” {yes, name-dropping just happened}.

All seemed to be going well for Vintage on First and Rosado and his team easily fit in with their neighbors, including Tony Boloney’s and Antique Bakery, whose owners were thrilled to gain another community shop in the neighborhood. However, three weeks after opening, Rosado received a call from his employee who stated that the sheriff was at the shop with the “real landlord” and that they must vacate the property immediately and turn over their keys. It turns out that the man Rosado believed to be his landlord was actually a tenant himself who was illegally renting the space to Vintage on First after falling behind on his rent. Shocked, the team complied with the sheriff and removed all merchandise from the store and vacated immediately. “[This] isn’t going to take me down,” said Rosado. “This story is part of the layers of my fabric.

The {Second} Grand Opening

With the support of the community, an awesome local realtor, and their 1st Street neighbors, Vintage on First was able to reopen their shop during the first week of June at a storefront just down the block from their original location on First. What many didn’t know was that this lease was a short-term solution, leaving Rosado and his family unsure about the future of their shop in the Mile Square. Although they strongly felt a sense of belonging in the Hoboken community, they had yet to find a permanent home.

As we mentioned, Vintage on First FINALLY signed a long-term lease at 257 First Street {where the old Midtown Authentic was located} and has been open since January 2nd. Their grand opening celebration will be on Saturday January 13th from 1PM-5PM. Make sure to check out the new shop for beautifully curated, designer vintage clothing and accessories.

Congrats to the entire Vintage on First team — we cannot wait to see how your story continues to evolve!
