April Showers don’t only bring May Flowers, they bring a ton of volunteer opportunities! This may be our most packed volunteer guide yet. Read on to check out how to get involved in April {including Hoboken Girl’s 2nd Annual Wellness Crawl}. From Earth Day to Autism Awareness to workouts and paint nights you’re bound to find a way to give back. Remember to come back throughout the month for added events. Here is the list of April 2018 volunteering opportunities in Hoboken and Jersey City, so you can get involved.

TRUE Mentors Volunteers’ Night Out at Stewed Cow: Tuesday, April 3rd from 8:00pm – 10:00pm

Swing by Stewed Cow to party with TRUE Mentors volunteers and learn more about how you can make an impact through their mentoring programs. New in town or just new to TRUE Mentors? Stop by the Enrichment Club volunteer orientation beforehand at 6pm and join up for a cocktail afterwards. The event is open to the public and the more the merrier – so bring a friend or two! CASA Information Session at the Hudson County Admin Building: Tuesday, April 3rd at 6:30pm

Interested in making a difference in a child’s life? Volunteering with CASA might be right for you. CASA volunteers are paired with a foster child and get to know them through monthly visits. Learn more about Hudson County CASA’s work and how to become a volunteer at the first of two information sessions this month. Parking is available in the lot behind the Admin building. Jack Rabbit Charity Pub Run: Tuesday, April 3rd at 6:30pm

If you’re the type of runner that needs a little motivation to get started – this event is for you! Help JackRabbit Hoboken support the American Cancer Society at their April 2018 Charity Pub Run. The run kicks off at the Hoboken store and all runners who buy at least one $5 raffle ticket will drink for free at all three stops – Dorrian’s Red Hand, HUB Hoboken and Union Hall Hoboken. Each raffle ticket gets you the chance to win free shoes, apparel, accessories, and more including swag from On. On will also be demo-ing their new Cloud X and Cloudflyer kicks. Project H.E.R.O.I.S.M Spring Break Event at 220 Adams Street: Wednesday, April 4th from 9:00am – 4:00pm

Wondering what to do with your little ones during Spring Break? Get them giving back to the community from a young age with Project H.E.R.O.I.S.M. Kids ages 5 – 12 will learn how they can support their community, celebrate Earth Day by beautifying the neighborhood, craft with seniors, enjoy lunch with friends, and take part in other fun service activities. Tickets are $65 and can be purchased here.

NJ Devils Play for a Cause Autism Awareness Day at the Prudential Center: Thursday, April 5th at 7:00pm

Spring may have sprung but there’s still plenty of time for hockey! Watch the NJ Devils take on the Toronto Maple Leafs and support Play4Autism. Tickets are available in various sections here.

Hoboken FC Spring Bar Night at Mulligan’s: Friday, April 6th from 9:00pm – 12:00am

Did you know Hoboken is home to one of the oldest continuously playing soccer clubs in the United States? Hoboken FC 1912 was founded in {you guessed it} 1912 and has been thriving ever since. Come out to learn more and help raise funds for the team – $40 gets you open bar from 9:00pm to midnight and a portion goes back to Hoboken FC. More details on their Facebook page, here.

World Autism Month Open Bar Fundraiser at Willie McBrides: Saturday, April 7th from 8:00pm – 11:00pm

KFM Making A Difference and Hoboken Special Needs Parents Group are co-sponsoring a fundraiser in honor of Autism Awareness Month and the 1 in 68 people diagnosed with autism today in the US. Show your support at Willie McBride’s for a 3 hour open bar and light snacks; a portion of event proceeds will help provide scholarships for students with autism to attend college via the nonprofit KFM Making A Difference, run by Kerry Magro, a professional speaker who is an adult on the autism spectrum! Tickets are $50 and can be purchased here.

Kittens @ Kanibal with JerseyCats: Sunday, April 8th

Comedy Night for Autism at Willie McBride’s: Sunday, April 8th at 7:00pm

Join Play4Autism for a night of comedy and awareness hosted by Patrick Holbert. Laugh away the Sunday Scaries with comics Samantha Bednarz, Sam Mushman, and Mark DeMayo. Tickets are $10 at the door and more info can be found here.

EPTG + Jaclyn Fulop Liberty Humane Society Fundraiser at Corgi Distillery: Wednesday, April 11th from 7:30pm – 9:30pm

In honor of their therapy dog, Chloe, Exchange Physical Therapy Group and Jaclyn Fulop are hosting a fundraiser to support Liberty Humane Society’s mobile spay and neuter program. {You’re not having deja vu – this event was rescheduled from last month due to snow} What better way to spend hump day than supporting a good cause? Tickets are $25 and can be purchased here.

Liberty Humane Society Yappy Hour at Ale House: Friday, April 13th from 7:00pm – 9:00pm

Friday the 13th can’t be bad luck if you’re hanging out with your pup! Enjoy drink specials and an extended happy hour with the purchase of a $5 wristband at the door. 100% of the proceeds go to benefit the animals of Liberty Humane Society. RSVP here.

Volunteer Gardening Day at Liberty State Park: Saturday, April 14th from 10:00am – 12:00pm

Do you have a green thumb? If so, join fellow gardeners to beautify the gardens around the Nature Interpretive Center at Liberty State Park just in time for spring. This opportunity is open to kids and adults alike so if you have budding {pun intended} nature enthusiasts at home – bring ‘em along! Scholarship Fund for Inner-City Children Cocktails for a Cause at Marty O’Brien’s: Saturday, April 14th from 4:00pm – 7:00pm

Eat, drink, and network at Cocktails for a Cause sponsored by the Board of Associates of the Scholarship Fund for Inner-City Children. Enjoy a three hour open bar and free buffet with proceeds supporting much needed scholarships for deserving children. Tickets are $40 and will be sold at the door. NJCU’s 3rd Annual Save the Youth Event: Tuesday, April 17th from 4:00pm – 6:30pm

Help prevent youth violence this month with NJCU at their 3rd Annual Save the Youth event. Participants will receive free resources, education, and skills development for stopping youth violence as well access to meaningful volunteering opportunities, prizes, and networking with local legislators and community leaders. Stop by the first floor of NJCU’s Gillian Student Union Building and join forces to Save Our Youth! More information can be found here.

Art e Vino Paint and Sip JerseyCats Fundraiser: Thursday, April 19th from 7:00pm – 9:00pm

Love cats but your landlord has a strict no pets policy? Then this event is purrfect for you. Get your paint on and mingle with other cat lovers at paint night supporting JerseyCats, a local organization dedicated to improving the lives of homeless cats and kittens. Tickets are $45 and you can register a group as well, so bring your friends! Snag tickets, here.

Rotary Legacy of Service Awards at Liberty Prime Steakhouse: Thursday, April 19th at 6:00pm

Celebrate 101 years of the Rotary Club of Jersey City and 30 years of Women in Rotary at the Legacy of Service Awards! Three distinguished women in the community will be honored: Amy Lin-Rodriguez {Principal of Explore 2000 Middle School} for Service to Youth, Monique Smith-Andrews {Founder of Monique’s Techniques + the Mohair Foundation} for Service to Community and Carol Mori {Executive Director, Garden State Episcopal Community Development Corporation} for Service to Rotary. Tickets are $101 in advance or $121 at the door and include valet parking, hors d’oeuvres, carving stations, three hour open bar, and dancing. City of Hoboken Second Annual Spring Fling at Church Square Park: Saturday, April 21st from 10:00am – 2:00pm

Come together with your fellow Hoboken Girls {and guys! and kids! and families!} for a community wide day of service dedicated to cleaning up the Mile Square’s parks and public spaces. Projects will include cleaning up litter and debris, planting, painting and more to beautify our city. You can register individually or with a group here, last day to sign up is April 13th.

Spring Fever Silent Disco Fundraiser at Antique Bar and Bakery: Saturday, April 21st from 10:00pm to 3:00pm

Break out your 70s best and dance the night away at a Silent Disco Fundraiser to support Family Promise and their work to provide housing and resources to those affected by poverty in Hudson County. Tickets are $40 at the door and include one free drink and a headset rental {silent disco means everyone gets their own headphones, groovy!} and a prize will be awarded for foxiest outfit. Earth Day 5K Run/Walk and Fair at Liberty State Park: Saturday, April 21st from 10:00am – 4:00pm

Be cool and go green at the Earth Day Celebration at Liberty State Park. The day kicks off with a 5k Run/Walk at 10am followed by a fair with Earth Day activities, free rides,health screenings, entertainment and more! NY Red Bulls Autism Awareness Day at Red Bull Arena: Saturday April 21st at 3:30pm

Enjoy a day out with friends and family and raise money to benefit Play4Autism. Cheer on the NY Redbulls as they take on the Chicago Fire. Also, in 2017 the Red Bulls introduced a permanent Sensory-Friendly room in their arena, available free of charge to anyone who needs. Tickets include a drawstring bag with purchase, get yours here!

Hoboken Wellness Crawl: Sunday, April 22nd from 11:00am – 4:00pm

Get hyped for Hoboken Girl’s Second Annual Wellness Crawl! Get your ticket today to get access to freebies, demos, giveaways, and more around town. This year, $1 of every ticket sold will go to The Water Project, a nonprofit dedicated to providing African communities with clean water. 4th Annual Stevens Institute of Technology Take Back the Night: Thursday, April 26th at 6pm

Be a part of the Take Back the Night movement with Stevens, CarePoint Health and Mayor Ravi Bhalla at the 4th Annual event. Since the 70s, Take Back the Night has focused on eliminating sexual and domestic violence in the US. Thousands of organizations across the country hold events each year to raise awareness, share stories and honor victims. Head to the Babbio Patio on Stevens Campus to be a part of this powerful event.

The Great Jersey City Clean Up: Saturday, April 28th from 10:00am – 2:00pm

Roll up your sleeves to help keep Jersey City beautiful! This city-wide initiative aims to inspire people to take action every day to improve their communities. With six locations throughout Jersey City it’s easy to take part. More information on the event and ways to volunteer here.

The Ethical Community Charter School Middle School Car Wash: Saturday, April 28th 11:00am – 4:00pm

You can’t forget your car during Spring Cleaning! Get your ride scrubbed and support the Ethical Community Charter School. The wash will be at 95 Broadway in Jersey City – enter through Giles Street and Marion Place. Tickets are $7 each and can be purchased at the event. More info here.

Walk MS at Liberty State Park: Saturday, April 28th from 7:00am – 1:00pm

Volunteers are needed in various capacities to help make this year’s walk a success! From checking walkers in to cheering teams on to setting up or breaking down tables there is lots to do. Photographers and entertainment {magicians, face painting, balloon artists etc.} also needed. The only requirement is a desire to see a world free of MS! Headstands for Hunger at the Church of the Holy Innocents: Sunday, April 29th at 9:00am

Headstands for Hunger’s mission is to unify local yoga teachers and their communities to aid in feeding homeless people and pets nationwide. All proceeds {donated money + food} will benefit the Community Food Bank of NJ and a local animal shelter. Keep an eye on their Facebook page here for more event details coming soon! …and don’t worry, headstands are optional!
