The fireworks may be over but there’s still a ton of time left in July to give back to your community – including an event with Team HG at the Hoboken Shelter! Whether you’re interested in running a 5k, attending a planning meeting, or even sipping some cocktails for a good cause, you’ll find something to get into in the last two weeks of July. Here is the list of volunteering opportunities in Hoboken and Jersey City from July 15th – 31st, so you can get involved.

Team Hoboken Girl Helps Volunteers at the Hoboken Shelter: Friday, July 20th at 5:00pm

Start your weekend off on the right foot and join some of Team Hoboken Girl to serve dinner at the Hoboken Homeless Shelter. We’ll be assisting the amazing team at the Shelter with preparing, serving, and cleaning up after a meal as well as helping sort donations and other small tasks, as needed. Bring 1 item to donate to the shelter, learn more about what the shelter does, and meet some of your neighbors — all while giving back. Please email hobokengirlhelps@gmail.com by Thursday, July 19th to claim your spot! There are 15 spots, so feel free to bring a friend.

Choc O Pain Monthly Action Meeting at Choc O Pain Hoboken: Sunday, July 15th from 3:00pm – 4:30pm

In addition to serving up delicious French bread, pastry, and coffee Choc O Pain is committed to doing some monthly actions to combat climate change. Join with like minded Hudson County residents to brainstorm and motivate each other. All are welcome – even if you haven’t come to a meeting before! Bring a notebook or laptop to organize your thoughts, if you’d like. More info here.

Party with Purpose 5K, Kid’s Run + After Party at Pier A Park: Tuesday, July 17th

The Party with Purpose 5K is one of the biggest races in Hoboken and sponsors local youth charities including the Hoboken Boys & Girls Club, TRUE Mentors, and the Jubilee Center. The day is literally jam-packed with events, kicking off with a kid’s fun run at 3:30pm, waterfront 5k at 7:00pm, and after-party immediately following. Reward yourself for running with live music from The Counterfeiters, beer, wine, and food trucks. If running isn’t really your speed {ha} no worries – you can still attend the afterparty for $5. Party admission is free for runners, volunteers, and sponsors and drink tickets are $5 for errbody. Come run and hang out with some members of Team Hoboken Girl, including Jordan and Joelle who are working tirelessly to make this event happen. Women Rising Rooftop Get Together at Modera Lofts: Wednesday, July 18th from 6:00pm – 8:00pm

You may remember Women Rising as the beneficiary of Hoboken Girl’s recent Vino + Vinyasa Event or maybe from our inaugural Hoboken Girl Helps volunteering event! Even if this organization is brand new to you, stop by to learn more about their work at a rooftop get together. Take in awesome views, jam to live music, and enjoy wine and cheese to support their mission. Tickets and more info, here.

Hudson CAT Night: Recruitment Tactics: Thursday, July 19th from 6:30pm – 8:30pm

Join the Planned Parenthood Action Fund of NJ for their 3rd installment of the Summer of Resistance Organizing Series. Learn organizing principles to grow and strengthen teams and practice them in real time. Tickets are free, register here.

Hudson County CASA Information Session at Little City Books: Thursday, July 19th at 7:00pm

Learn more about how you can make a difference in the life of a Hudson County foster child at Hudson County CASA’s information session. CASA volunteers are ordinary people who can make a difference in a child’s life – no matter how much free time you do {or don’t} have. Learn more and RSVP here.

Liberty Humane Society Pet Adoption Day at Pier 13: Saturday, July 21st from 12:00pm – 3:00pm

You’re probably going to hit Pier 13 on a sunny summer weekend anyway – why not do it for a good cause? Stop by between 12 – 3 to support Liberty Humane Society and even potentially adopt a pet of your own! More deets here.

HUSAY Flapjack Fundraiser at Applebees Jersey City: Saturday, July 21st 8:00am – 10:00am

What better reason to get up early on Saturday than to eat pancakes? If you’re still not convinced, how about pancakes to support local youth sports? Grab breakfast at Applebees on Route 440 and help raise money for Hudson Union Sports Association for Youth, a local nonprofit that promotes youth basketball programs. Octavia’s Brood and Activism Workshop at WORD Bookstore: Saturday, July 21st from 2:00pm – 5:00pm

Join three speculative fiction experts, writers, activists and community leaders to learn more about Afro Futurism and how it can lead to concrete social engagement in our communities. Tickets are $40 and get you an autographed copy of Octavia’s Brood, supplies for the workshop, and a beverage from WORD’s cafe! Tickets and more info here.

Hudson County Sierra Club Book Group at Zeppelin Hall: Wednesday, July 25th from 6:30pm – 8:00pm

Summer reading doesn’t have to stop just because you’re done with school! The Hudson County Sierra Club is starting a Book Group for locals to read and discuss literature about environmental justice, conservation policy, climate change and similar topics. AngelaCARES 5th Annual Purple Gala at Saint Peter’s University: Thursday, July 26th at 6:00pm

Get ready to walk the Purple Carpet in celebration of community excellence! Each year, AngelaCARES’ Gala highlights and honors youth, seniors, and organizations making a difference in our community. This year 10 honorees will recognized and awarded during the course of the evening. Wear your purple and come celebrate the work of these individuals and what their results have meant. Sidewalk University’s 2018 Jersey City Scholarship Breakfast at Liberty House: Saturday, July 28th from 9:00am – 11:00am

Sidewalk University is dedicated to developing the leaders of tomorrow. With that in mind, their Jersey City Carnival Scholarship Breakfast was born! This event encourages Jersey City high school students to attend college by awarding educational grants to help lighten the burden of ever increasing higher education costs.
