Lazy days of summer? No way! The days may be getting hotter and longer but that just means more time to give back and volunteer. There are plenty of ways to get involved in Hoboken and Jersey City this month whether you prefer to be out and about or made in the shade. Here is the list of volunteering opportunities in Hoboken and Jersey City from July 1st – 14th, so you can get involved {stay tuned for part two, coming later this month!}:

Summer Lovin’ Adoption Promo at Liberty Humane Society: Sunday, July 1st from 2:00pm – 7:00pm

Looking for a furry friend to go on some summer adventures with? Liberty Humane Society is waiving adoption fees for all cats over six months and all dogs over 40 pounds through July 3rd! Bring home a new pal this month and put the money you saved towards treats for them – and you! No judgement. More info here.

Jersey City Stands with our Immigrant Nation Rally at the Newark Ave Pedestrian Mall: Tuesday, July 3rd from 6:00pm – 9:00pm

Kick off your holiday weekend with some activism. Join forces with Jersey City Stands and the City of Hoboken to support immigrants. Stand in solidarity with other New Jersey residents and rally for our immigrant nation. Speakers will be announced as they are confirmed. Keep an eye for more info here.

CUPCG Fourth of July BBQ at 612 Communipaw Avenue: Wednesday, July 4th from 12:00pm – 5:00pm

Sticking around the Mile Square this 4th of July? Staying home doesn’t mean missing out. Get your patriotic party fix at the Community Uplifting Project Community Garden BBQ. There will be free food, games, and fun. All are welcome – kids too! Learn more about the garden and get details here.

Liberty Humane Society Yappy Hour at Ale House: Friday, July 6th from 7:00pm – 9:00pm

Midweek holiday got your schedule out of whack? Keep the party going with the Liberty Humane Society’s monthly Yappy Hour at Ale House. As usual, pups are welcome to belly up to the bar too {maybe stick to milkbone instead of milk stout for them though, ha} and $5 gets you a wristband for drink specials. 100% of the proceeds benefit Liberty Humane Society. 5th Annual It’s all Love BBQ at Caven Point Park JC: Sunday, July 8th from 12:00pm – 8:00pm

Nothing is better than a summer Saturday in the park – except maybe a summer Saturday in the park for a good cause! Spend the day maxin’ and relaxin’ while helping to raise money for America Needs You – NJ, an organization dedicated to fighting for economic mobility for first generation college students. Tickets include a donation, all day DJ entertainment, performances, games, raffles and of course, all you can eat BBQ. Check out the 2017 event video, learn more, and grab your ticket here.

Housing Authority of the City of Hoboken Family and Community Dinner at 221 Jackson Community Room: Monday, July 9th at 7:30pm

The second Monday of each month, the City of Hoboken Housing Authority hosts a Family and Community dinner. Celebrate family, community, and friendship {we can get behind that!} with other residents of the Mile Square. To learn more or volunteer check out the event page here.

French American Academy French Flag Raising at City Hall in Jersey City: Monday, July 9th from 3:00pm – 4:00pm

French food? French wine? French Pastries? Oui, oui! The French American Academy is hosting a French week from July 9th to July 14th {Bastille Day} and it all kicks off with a flag raising ceremony. Stick around after the ceremony for cocktails and samples of French food.Throughout the week local restaurants and cafe partners will host French happy hours with a variety of food and drink to try. All proceeds benefit the French American Academy and Hudson Pride. Learn more and see how you can get in on the action here.

Jersey City Blood Drive at Newport Tower: Tuesday, July 10th from 8:00am – 5:00pm

If you’re not scared of needles stop by Newport Tower to donate blood at Tuesday’s drive sponsored by New Jersey Blood Services. If you *are* scared {no judgement} you may be swayed by the promise of a pair of NY Mets tickets for every donor, in addition to the traditional post donation juice + cookies. Appointments can be made here in advance but walk-ins are also welcome!

City Challenge Jersey City Shelter Night at St. Lucy’s Emergency Shelter: Tuesday, July 10th between 4:00pm and 6:00pm

Do a good deed on your way home from work! The City Challenge Team will be serving dinner at St. Lucy’s Emergency Shelter between 4:00pm and 6:00pm on Tuesday and all are invited to swing by and drop off items. Most needed donations include: plastic cups, plates, + utensils, canned goods, towels, linen, sheets, toilet paper, toothpaste, bath soap, and other toiletries. If you’re already booked on Tuesday, items can also be dropped off at their office in Hoboken during the week. Get more info here.

Summer Sunset Blues Cruise Sail from Liberty State Park: Tuesday, July 10th from 6:00pm – 8:30pm

Take in some beautiful views from on a sunset blues cruise! Sail into New York Harbor as the sun is setting while jamming out to Carlos Colina and The Grind and more! All proceeds benefit Musicians on a Mission, a nonprofit dedicated to creating connection and inspiring giving through music. Tickets are $60 per person and include all beverages. More details here.

Hudson County CASA Information Session at the Hudson County Administration Building: Tuesday July 10th from 6:30pm – 8:30pm

Learn more about how you can make a difference in the life of a Hudson County foster child at Hudson County CASA’s information session. CASA volunteers are ordinary people who can make a difference in a child’s life – no matter how much free time thy do {or don’t} have. RSVPs are requested but not required. Learn more and RSVP here.

NAMI Hudson County Support Meeting at Provident Bank Ambulatory Care Center: Tuesday, July 10th from 7:00pm – 9:00pm

The Hudson County Chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness {NAMI} is hosting a support meeting for anyone dealing with mental health issues and their friends and family members. Hudson County Chamber of Commerce 5th Annual Nonprofit Council Reception at Jersey City Medical Center: Wednesday, July 11th from 5:30pm – 7:30pm

Join members of the Hudson County Chamber of Commerce and the Hoboken Chamber of Commerce to network and learn more about Hudson County’s nonprofit community. Hear from guest speaker, Sherry Fazio, and meet and mingle with fellow Hoboken and Jersey City residents. Tickets are $15 for Chamber members and $25 for general admission. Details here.

City of Water Day: Hoboken: Saturday, July 14th from 10:00am – 4:00pm

It’s easy to take the waterfront for granted when you pass it every day on your commute, on a run, or just out to drinks at Pier 13. City of Water Day is your chance to reconnect with your waterfront. The Waterfront Alliance, Fund for a Better Waterfront, and Hoboken Residents for a Public Waterfront are coming together for a free family fun day. Enjoy activities, hear from speakers, and try out paddling or other adventures. No RSVP needed – learn more here!

Caribbean Medical Mission All White Benefit Cruise: Saturday, July 14th from 6:00pm – 11:30pm

All aboard the Cornucopia Cruise Line! Break out your best summer outfit and help support the Caribbean Medical Mission’s goal of improving lives and serving the needy. Party the night away on on the Hudson while supporting a cause – we’re in! Tickets include dinner, dancing, entertainment, and more! Learn more and grab yours here.
