It’s that time again; the weekend! We’ve got plenty of crazy awesome events picked out just for you. From essential oil workshops to Hudson River Races to theater productions, this weekend is sure to be a great one. Here are the top 15 things to do in Hoboken + Jersey City this weekend. 

Take Your Instagram to the Next Level: Thursday, June 22nd from 7:00PM to 9:00 PM

The largest fair in the New York metro area with over 150 rides and attractions, will open again this summer for their 31st season, starting on Thursday, June 22 and running for 18 days {now you have no excuse not to attend}. The fair is being held at the Meadowlands Fairgrounds, next to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. The fair features free entertainment and special attractions. Historic Baseball Game: Saturday, June 24th at 1:00PM

Step right up! The 1859 Hoboken Base Ball Club {formerly known as the Hoboken Nine} will commemorate the historic game of June 19, 1846, played by the New York Nine and Knickerbockers that is widely regarded as the birth of modern baseball. The Hoboken squad will play the DC All Stars at Stevens Institute of Technology’s Dobbelaar Field where admission is free. Hoboken’s 1st Annual Polynesian Race and Festival: Saturday, June 24th from 11:00AM – 5:00PM

It’s the first ever Polynesian Race and Festival at Maxwell Place Park this Saturday. This combination race/festival will feature events for people of all ages including kayaking and outrigger canoe racing, live music, Hula dance lessons and performances, food, and more. Back for it’s fourth summer, the Jersey City Project and the city of JC present Project: EATS — which is, as they say, “a food centric marketplace celebrating warm days, cool drinks, and delicious eats.” The event will take place in Downtown JC at City Hall {280 Grove St.} and will be an outdoor street fair featuring a variety of local vendors and food trucks. Be sure to bring your appetite.

7th Annual New Jersey One-Minute Play Festival: Saturday June 24th + Sunday June 25th from 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM

The New Jersey One-Minute Play Festival {America’s largest and longest running grass roots Theatre Company} returns for its seventh year, beginning a new and exciting partnership with Mile Square Theatre {1400 Clinton St.}. The marathon evening of one-minute plays by over 30 of New Jersey’s established and emerging playwrights and directors will run for three performances only — Saturday, June 24th at 8pm, and Sunday, June 25th at 3pm + 7pm. Tickets, priced at $20, are currently available at www.milesquaretheatre.org. The aim of these plays is to represent playwrights of different age, gender, race, cultures, and points of career. The work attempts to reflect the theatrical landscape of local artistic communities by creating a dialogue between the collective conscious and the individual voice.

Talk About Ramapough-Lenape Indian Nation and Split Rock Sweetwater Prayer Camp: Sunday, June 25th at 4:00PM

Enlighten yourself by listening to representatives {Owl and Two Clouds} from the Mahwah-based Indian nation when they visit the Hoboken Historical Museum {1301 Hudson St.} to discuss the tribe’s history in New Jersey and struggles for autonomy today. Fun fact – the Ramapough are descendants of the once-vast nation of indigenous Lenape people whose ancestral lands included the western banks of the Hudson River where Hoboken now sits, and whose language gave rise to the city’s name, a Dutch interpretation of “Hopoghan Hackingh,” or “Land of the Tobacco Pipe.”  Think this is interesting? This talk will be right up your alley.
