Our favorite time of the week has finally come ’round again, and it’s safe to say with this weekend’s lineup of events, no one will be sitting on the couch. Whether you want to give back to the community, get a good laugh in with Hoboken’s annual comedy fest, or help out some furry friends, there’s no sign of slowing down. Here are 19 things to do this weekend in Hoboken and Jersey City.

And The Clouds Whispered Art Opening: Thursday, September 28th from 7:00PM – 9:00PM

Check out Jersey City resident and artist Diana Rivera’s newest exhibit called “And the Clouds Whispered” at the A Condominiums in Gallery A {389 Washington Street}. Diana is a self taught artist who specializes in abstract expressionism on canvas and pop surrealism illustrations in watercolor. She also happens to be one of the top Latina bloggers, too. Secaucus Restaurant Night: Thursday, September 28th from 6:00PM – 9:00PM

The Burning Bees at Hotel Victor: Thursday, September 28th at 7:30PM

The buzz around town is that you won’t want to miss The Burning Bees play at Hotel Victor {77 Hudson Street} this weekend. “Rooted in jam but coated in honey,” the rock band brings the party wherever they go with their covers and original songs. Get more information here.

Hoboken Comedy Festival: Friday, September 29th at 7:00PM

The funniest time of the year is here again with the much-anticipated Hoboken Comedy Festival. It’s already in full swing, but you can catch the Mile Square’s funniest acts until this Sunday. Some of the top comedians around have performed in the event: we’re talking Amy Schumer status. This year’s headliners include Drew Michael from SNL Bonnie McFarlane, who has been on The Tonight Show. The fun winds down with a block party at Taphaus on Sunday, where you much catch Maeve Press — a 15-year-old comedian from NYC who writes all her own material. This is a definite can’t-miss opportunity. Performances are happening all around town, so make sure to get all the details here.

Oktoberfest at Departed Soles: Friday, September 29th  {Check Hours Online}

Oktoberfest is getting a spooky twist this year with Departed Soles {150 Bay Street} newest brew: Helles Island, their very first lager. The new beer smells just like a traditional lager minus the bitterness. To celebrate, get a stein while they last {only 75 purchased} for just $12. Alongside the new beer, they’re releasing the Kimberly, which is a new milkshake IPA — basically music to our ears. Find out more here.

Pitness in the Park: Saturday, September 30th from 12:00PM – 3:00PM

It’s time to knockout the stereotype against pitbulls — and that’s exactly the goal of Pitness in the Park. Head out to Sinatra Park for the event, which is donating all proceeds to the New York Bully Crew. You can also adopt a new furry friend, get your fitness on, participate in raffles, and get your burning questions answered with the “Ask a Trainer” series. Find out more here.

Jersey City Irish Festival at Exchange Place: Saturday, September 30th from 11:00AM – 10:00PM

Dedicate a day celebrating the luck of the Irish. The annual festival at Exchange Place will include plenty of food and craft vendors, you bet there will be beer trucks, and children’s entertainment too. There will also be Irish dancers, drummers, and more.

 

“Inner Space” Art Show at Roig Gallery: Saturday, September 30th from 6:00PM-9:00PM

In honor of “Inner Space” by artist Garrett Wayne Walters, there will be an official reception with the artist to celebrate the exhibit. Smith Wine Festival at Porta: Saturday, September 30th from 1:00PM – 4:00PM

Wine and dine the night away at Porta Jersey City {135 Newark Avenue} with the second annual Smith Wine Festival. Try a curation of vinos from around the world {you’ll try over 100 kinds!}, taste small bites from Porta’s chefs, and enjoy live music on the roof. Tickets are $40 in advance and $45 at the door. 1Day Hoboken: Saturday, September 30th at 10:00AM

We’re one square mile, so let’s get together with one goal: to make a huge impact on our city in just one day. Hudson Grace is organizing its 1Day Hoboken, an event where we can get together to complete projects to help our community. Places you’ll be able to volunteer include: The Hoboken Shelter, True Mentors, Mustard Seed School, and City of Hoboken Cultural Affairs. The day kicks off at 301 Garden Street and ends at 1:30PM for an after party. Check out the event details here.

Coditum Coding Class Open House: Sunday, October 1st from 10:00AM-4:00PM

It’s that time of year again where the apples are just as crisp as the air outside. The third annual People’s Choice Apple Dessert Contest at Riverview Farmers Market {Riverview Fisk Park} is here again to make the city’s bellies happy. You can enter any apple dessert {just make sure there are enough for 100 small samples for the judges} in hopes of winning a $50 cash prize and trophy.  JC Families will also be hosting a bubble-making activity along with the main event. Free Hudson Bike Share Safety Class: Sunday, October 1st from 2:00PM – 6:00PM

Want to try out Hudson Bike Share, but just haven’t gotten around to it? With a free bike safety class, Hoboken Housing Authority residents and recipients of Section 8 vouchers can get a free half day class for three hours to learn the basics and go for a ride. You’ll get a helmet and of course a bike, but make sure to bring water and a snack. The best part? You’ll get a free one-year membership to HBS so you can get around easily. Beginners Guide to Pregnancy and Prenatal Yoga at Devotion Yoga: Sunday, October 1st from 2:00PM – 4:30PM
