Hotel Picks

The Mansion on Forsyth Park {Victorian Mansion}

AXIS School of Dance

If you’re ready to live the Southern luxe life, then this hotel is a restored Victorian mansion located right in the historic district you must consider. The lodgings boast a very glam, old-world vibe. Here, you’ll find over 400 pieces of artwork, a fine cuisine, and a top-notch spa to elevate your Savannah experience.

The Bohemian Hotel Savannah Riverfront {Views}

What better way to immerse yourself in the authentic Savannah experience than by staying at one of the finest hotels in the historic district, which is also in close proximity to everywhere you want to be. At the Bohemian Hotel, you’ll get live in a mid-18th century building while enjoying your modern lifestyle, making it the perfect mix of old-meets-new. The best part of this hotel, however, is its happy hour = on a rooftop offering unbelievable views under twinkling lights.

Places to Eat and Drink

Olde Pink House {Quintessential Savannah + Delicious Eats}

olde-pink-house-savannah

If you don’t go to Olde Pink House when you’re down here, did you even go to Savannah? That’s pretty much the case at this charming, Insta-worthy spot. You get a true antebellum feel, and the food is rated as the best in the city. You’re doing yourself a disservice if you don’t try the collard greens and the Shellfish Tower platter. PS: if you’re lucky, you may even spot some of the resident ghosts from the original Habersham family.

The Bohemian Hotel {Swanky Spot With Outdoor Rooftop}

Also one of our top picks for a hotel, the Bohemian is one of the swankiest spots in town — perfect for pre-dinner rooftop drinks and delish, Southern contemporary bites or tapas. The top-rated hotel offers two dining options: Rocks on the River {contemporary Southern food} and Rocks on the Roof {drinks and tapas}. The first dining spot manages to still feel comfortable and welcoming thanks to a cozy fire pit and live entertainment, and the latter is definitely a next-level experience.

Rooftop at Cotton Sail Hotel {Gorgeous River View/Fun Day Drinking}

Sip on a local brew or craft cocktail while gazing at the breathtaking city view. This premiere bar also offers an international wine list and tasty apps, making it the go-to bar for a romantic evening or a fun night out with friends.

J. Christopher’s {Family Food}

When you just need some plain and simple comfort food, we’ve found the go-to breakfast/brunch destination in Savannah. From skillets and omelettes to waffles and healthier plates, there’s a little something for everyone in a family-friendly environment.

The Ordinary Pub {$10 Bottomless Mimosas}

OK, we know you’ve been waiting for the bottomless mimosas spot, so here’s the place to go, located right in the shopping district — directly under the Free People. Keep in mind that The Ordinary Pub doesn’t take reservations for large parties, but we guarantee it’s worth the wait to pop your champs and taste dishes inspired by California, the Midwest and {obviously} Savannah. P.S. the name doesn’t really speak to how out-of-the-ordinary it really is!

B. Matthews Eatery {Local Plates}

b-matthews

Located in Savannah’s historic district, this treasure offers up the brunch and drink menu to satisfy all your Southern cravings. When possible, B. Matthews serves up dishes crafted with seasonal and locally-sourced ingredients. Nosh on faves like shrimp and grits, black-eyed pea cake, fried green tomatoes and brunch classics including pancakes and eggs. Oh, and let’s not forget the booze: you have your choice of a Bloody Mary, mimosas on mimosas {carafes available}, and seasonal sangria in addition to their extensive cocktail menu.

Joe’s Handmade Cafe {Best Sandwiches}

Craving carbs but want something more than the average deli? Head to Joe’s for laid back deli eats, inspired by the oldest city in Georgia. Top picks include the Pulled Pork Ellis with Jo’Slaw and the Silly Goose, which is made with turkey, bacon, and pimento cheese.

a.lure {Fancy Dinner Out}

The name speaks for itself at this swanky Southern joint. Top dishes to enjoy include the rabbit ravioli, shrimp and grits, anddd baconized cocktails. A must if you have a few days to try different dinner spots out {but Olde Pink House is definitely #1 on our dinner list}.

Savannah Smiles {Dueling Pianos}

Music lovers, you’d be doing yourself a disservice if you didn’t go to Savannah Smiles. At this dueling piano bar, you can make your own song requests for the pianists, which adds to the fun. This is perfect for bachelorette parties and other large groups — you’ll have nonstop entertainment {and over 250 liquors available}.

Wet Willy’s {Fun Frozen Drinks}

With an open container policy and warm Georgia weather, it’s almost a given you’ll be in the mood for a fun, frozen drink during the day. At Wet Willy’s, you can sip on any flavor daiquiri that you could ever dream of, with flavors like Bahama Mama, Sour Apple, and Peach. The best part, however, is that you can totally take your drink with you outside thanks Savannah’s open container policy.

Sightseeing MUSTS

Forsyth Park {Perfect Picnic Spot}

Take an Uber from anywhere in the city to this lush park filled with greenery. Located right in the historic district in Savannah, there are plenty of sights to be seen including a gorgeous fountain, farmer’s market on Saturdays, and last but not least: THE bench where Tom Hanks sat eating chocolates during Forest Gump.

Hearse Ghost Tours {Nighttime Tour — in a HEARSE!}

Don’t be afraid — this tour is just plain fun, especially when you’ve got a group of friends to scare away the ghosts. Cruise around in a hearse that had been used for 15 years while exploring all the sights and history in the town. This tour is only $17, which is an amazing deal and totally worth a spook or two in exchange for all that you’ll see and learn! Plus, you can bring booze.

Savannah Slow Rider {Leisurely Tour — with some peddling}

If you’re looking to enjoy a leisurely day of sightseeing while getting in a {minor} workout, you’ll want to take a stroll on the Savannah Slow Ride. The vehicle is 100% pedal powered by you and fourteen others on board. The tour lasts two hours and takes you through the stunning historic downtown Savannah. The best part of it is that you get to bring your adult beverages on the tour.

Georgia Queen {Boat / Views}

On the waterfront, make sure to take a ride on the Georgia Queen riverboat. It’s quite a beautiful sight to see, and actually hosts dinners and sunset cruises for tourists. For the locals tying the knot, weddings are hosted onboard as well.

HG Insider Tips:

  • Savannah is open container city, but drinks NEED to be in plastic cups while you’re walking outside
  • While River Street is where some of the bars and restaurants are, it’s a bit touristy so just proceed with caution when dining — you may find things a little pricier than the rest of the city {but compared to Hoboken/NYC in general, prices for dining, drinks, etc. are pretty low — so it’s NBD, seriously}.
  • The second week of March is the second largest St. Patrick’s celebration in the country — so whether you love St. Paddy’s Day or hate it, please plan accordingly.
  • For next level martinis, hit up Jen’s and Friends. {Some fun flavors include pumpkin, s’mores, and strawberry shortcake if you need some martini-picking help!}
  • Shopping on Broughton = lots of fun, with some chain stores and bespoke boutiques. Definitely take a stroll!
  • Savannah is known for its ghost tours and rich history. No matter what you do, make sure you walk around and sightsee {or take one of the above tours}.
