West of Willow: La Femme Day Spa in the Monroe Center

West of Willow you’ll find a variety of things going on — most prominently the hustle and bustle that is now in the newly updated {and 2nd elevator-ed} Monroe Center. I absolutely love the vibe back there; it’s relaxed, a tad artsy, and there is always something going on {from a workout [shoutout to my iron plate girls!] class to an art class to a dance class to a play}. Most recently I stumbled upon a little spa on the 4th floor called La Femme Day Spa.

Located in suite 407, La Femme has been a staple spa in Hoboken for almost 20 years — and recently moved to their spot in the Monroe Center. I paid it a visit last week on a day off for some pampering, and was quite excited that I could drive to the spa + have free parking {newsflash: the Monroe Center has free parking!}.

So, on to the treatments. La Femme has a relatively small selection of gel and manicure colors, but they have a regular nailpolish brand called Jessica which had really nice, bold colors – based in the UK. I picked a bold red and was chatting away with Rita, the owner, and my nail tech — both Russian. Maybe it’s because I come from eastern European heritage, but even if I didn’t—the two ladies were very sweet and endearing, and made me feel happy + at home. It’s not often you feel that way at ANY nail salon around Hoboken — usually it’s a rushed, emotionless situation where you feel like just another set of hands to paint.

Not a huge selection of mani colors, but the basics.

Hobbs Inc

I loved chatting about their experiences working in Hoboken for 20 years and living in Brooklyn, plus some discussions about marriage and other fun girly stuff like that, with a different perspective. My pedicure turned out okay — no frills, but a decent pedi. They have only two pedicure chairs {new, updated — with electronic massage!}, and it’s nice because if you make an appointment with a friend, it will most likely be the two of you sitting there together which I think is so intimate…you can chat and enjoy some pampering together without feeling overwhelmed at a busy Hoboken salon!

Word on the street is that Rita is also starting to do mommy + me mani pedi sessions for mom and daughter. So cute!

I was extra excited for my massage because I have a herniated disc in my back and any extra TLC is totally needed. Sylvia was my masseuse and seriously, SHE HAD MAGIC HANDS. She did release therapy on my back and neck {which is also always tightly wound} and I was in serious heaven. I mean it when I say she had magic hands! Super relaxing and deep, and totally worth it.

Candles + incense + massage by Sylvia on my day off… the perfect cure to a rough week of work.

Up next was my facial. The esthetician used steam, moisturizing creams, and performed extractions. We also did a clarifying mask, as my skin has been a bit testy lately and prone to minor breakouts. Next time I come, I want to try the seaweed mask!

Some of the products used at La Femme

I know the ladies at la Femme also do waxing — specifically Brazilian waxes, which is good to note and try for next time. Right now they’re running a few spa specials, including:

  • – $80 for 80 minutes massage
    – $80 for LaFemme Signature Classic Facial
    – $125 for Revitalizing Anti-Aging Facial Treatment with Fruit Enzyme Peel

Overall I just loved spending the afternoon with the ladies for several reasons: the cozy and homey atmosphere, the attentive owner Rita, the amazing masseuse Sylvia, my relaxing facial…and best of all — not worry about my car while I’m inside. I’m looking forward to coming back soon for another massage ASAP!

Have you been to La Femme? What did you think?
