Last week, we posted the story of Baby Madison, the Hoboken infant who is currently waiting for a heart transplant. The community is continuing to rally in support of Madison and her parents Matt and Stephanie Cohen, who is a Local Barre instructor. On Thursday, August 18th Little Hoboken is partnering with The W Hotel and Lulu’s to host a charity happy hour to raise money for the family. All proceeds from the event will go directly to Miracles for Madison Rose. Be sure to by and offer support to Baby Madison!

Extreme Heat In Hoboken

Unless you’ve stayed locked in your apartment for the last four days, you know it’s hot… very hot. 95+ degree temperatures with heat indexes of 105-110 degrees due to extreme humidity has caused officials to release an excessive heat warning from Friday, August 12th through Sunday, August 14th at 10:00PM.  The City of Hoboken has opened a cooling center located at 124 Grand Street which will remain open until 8:00AM on Monday morning. Residents are encouraged to stay in air conditioning as much as possible and to check on elderly neighbors and people with disabilities who may need assistance keeping cool.

Trader Joe’s Hints At Opening Date

We’ve known Trader Joe’s was headed to Hoboken for some time nowbut it looks like we finally have some info on when the grocery store will open. According to a recent hMAG article, representatives for Trader Joe’s announced that, pending no construction delays, the doors would open in early 2017. We can’t wait!

Hoboken Police Arrest 12 Alleged Bike Thieves

On Tuesday, Hoboken police officers arrested ten juveniles and two adults who allegedly attempting to steal bikes from a parking garage around 210 Clinton Street as well as an area around 3rd and Garden. The suspects had bolt cutters that were possibly being used to cut bike chains. The suspects attempted to flee but were eventually caught. Charges for suspects included included burglary, theft, criminal mischief, possession of burglary tools, possession of a stolen credit card, resisting arrest, aggravated assault, possession of marijuana, employing a juvenile in the commission of a crime and possession of narcotics paraphernalia. The Hoboken Police Department has an ongoing initiative to minimize bike theft.

Walmart Acquires Jet.com

Hoboken-based Jet.com has been purchased by WalmartAccording to a press release, the companies hope that “acquisition will build on and complement the significant foundation already in place to serve customers across the Walmart app, site and stores and position the company for even faster e-commerce growth in the future by expanding customer reach and adding new capabilities.” While the deal has been approved by the Board of Directors for both companies, it is still subject to regulatory approval.
