Alternatives Announced for Rebuild by Design

The Rebuild by Design project has been a hot topic around town. Many residents have voiced opposition to a proposed flood wall that would impact the Hoboken waterfront.  Three alternatives have been proposed and were presented at a community meeting on Thursday, February 18th.  The first alternative includes the waterfront wall, that has the greatest level of risk reduction but the largest cost and biggest impact on waterfront views. The other proposed options also lower the risk and have less of an impact on waterfront views. However, there are some buildings that would still be at risk during a storm surge. For more information on the proposed plans visit the City of Hoboken’s website.

NJ.com recently announced the semi-finalists in their N.J’s Best Italian Restaurants contest. Augustino’s, located at 1104 Washington Street, has made the list. Anyone who’s ever been to the popular Hoboken restaurant knows that they serve some of the best Italian food around. Reservations are tough to come by unless booked far in advance. We’re always happy to see a mile-square business getting major recognition. Stay tuned for final results!

NJ Lawmaker Proposes to Lower Drinking Age to 18

NJ Assemblyman Michael Patrick Carroll has proposed a law to the NJ State Legislature that would lower the legal drinking age in New Jersey from 21 to 18. Carroll argues that if at 18 years old a person is old enough to fight for his or her country, then that person should be allowed to purchase alcohol. Congress passed a law in 1984, sponsored by late NJ Senator Frank Lautenberg, that states that any state that lowers the drinking age below 21 loses federal funding for highways. Carroll argues that the fear of losing money is a form of extortion conducted by the federal government.

We announced Francesca’s was coming to Hoboken back in April of 2015.  While it seemed like construction would never end on the 318 Washington location, we’re happy to announce the shops has officially opened. While we’re still partial to our favorite {local} boutiques, there’s no doubt Francesca’s has some adorable accessories and gifts. We’re excited to welcome the shop to town!
